When Tony Gilroy, screenwriter for the first three Bourne Movies, was given the task to direct The Boure Legacy, many thought that the new movie would be a reboot. The Bourne Legacy is in a sense a reboot, but can also be seen as a parallel story to the Bourne series. That’s because it uses some of the same characters from the previous three movies. Which is why you are seeing actors like Albert Finney and Joan Allen in the brand new teaser trailer for The Bourne Legacy. Not only do you get to see some memorable faces, but you also get to see Jeremy Renner get himself into a Jason Bourne like scenario that has the government intent on killing him. Of course he’s not going down without a fight.

Check out the first teaser trailer for The Bourne Legacy below.

I love how the trailer starts off with very slow scrolling sectioned frames. It gives you an idea of what kind of movie you will be getting yourself into without giving away a lot. Honestly, it looks as though The Bourne Legacy has no intentions of rebooting anything, and it doesn’t even bother to retell anything about the Outcome program, which is prefectly fine by me. I rather have it that way.

Apple has the HD trailer. The Bourne Legacy will release on August 3, 2012.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

Chris Hemsworth has gone from Captain Kirk’s father, to voyeuristic subject, to a God of Thunder, to a man hunting the fairest of them all. While he have only seen him play as the titular character in Thor, the actor will be see in Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, and the very surprising Snow White and the Huntsman. Hemsworth will play as the Huntsman, who is tasked with killing the fair maiden, but has a change of heart. The movie is set for a June release, so there may be another trailer released in the coming weeks. The new image from the movie comes courtesy from our friends at Facebook.

So as we await the second trailer for the movie, Universal has released a new image featuring Hemsworth along side the dwarfs. The movie will feature eight of them, which leads me to believe we will find out why there will be seven in this modern day telling of the classic fairy tale. Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, Ian McShane, and Ray Winstone are just some of the familiar names that will play as the dwarfs. While those are just some of the biggest names, its hard to identify who is who in this image, but by money is on Ian McShane as the dwarf over Hemsworth’s shoulder. Can you identify any the rest of them?

Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion was building itself up to be on huge sci-fi epic. Having already landed Universal Pictures as a distributor, after Disney dropped the project, the director was on the look out for people to be added to the cast. Tom Cruise is on tap to play as the male lead, and Jessica Chastain was being courted to play as the female lead, but it appears that the latter might not even make it to the set due to her obligation to appear in Kathryn Bigelow’s Osama Bin Laden/Seal Team 6 movie.

But the Tron: Legacy director has settled on Olga Kurylenko as her replacement and Andrea Riseborough as been added to the cast.

Here is the official synopsis for the movie

In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.

According to Variety, Olga Kuryleko was one of the actresses who had originally tested for the role that Jessica Chastain won before she dropped out. But the one role was that was vacant was the mysterious woman in the pod. Previous reports had Hayley Atwell, Diane Kruger, and Kate Beckinsale on tap to play as the mysterious woman, but it appears that Andrea Riseborough won the role.

The film is scheduled to start shooting some time in the first quarter of 2012.

Seth Gordon and Melissa McCarthy will see if they can continue their recent success at the movies with a brand new comedy. Gordon is coming off the sleeper hit Horrible Bosses as well as McCarthy with he performance in Bridesmaids. Now Deadline reports that the two will team up for Identity Theft, a new comedy that has Jason Bateman already attached to appear. The project itself was announced last summer, but there were reports that it has been retrofitted so that McCarthy will be able to express your own brand of comedy in the movie.

The report says that the movie will follow a man (played by Bateman) whose identity is stolen by McCarthy’s charter. The stie adds that Bateman requested that the movie’s script be changed so that McCarthy can appear opposite him because he was fond of her performance in Bridesmaids. Good to know that McCarthy’s performance hasn’t gone unnoticed. Bateman is also producing the film which is based on a script written by Steve Conrad with rewrites from Craig Mazin.

Though the details are light, the movie sounds like it could be a hit, and I can’t wait to see what Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy can bring to the big screen, especially under Seth Gordon’s direction. The movie has no release date.

News about a Fast and Furious 6 & 7 have been quiet for some time now, in fact the last bit of news concerning the Fast and Furious sequels was posted in October. Rumors started to swirl when The Transporter’s Jason Statham was attached to star and that the movie could take place in Europe. But today’s update makes no mention of that, but confirms that there is a seventh Fast and Furious sequel coming. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vin Disel had this to say about the future of the Fast and Furious film franchise:

With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space… We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages.

Dwyane Johnson’s appearance in the last movie, reinvigorated the film franchise and proved that the Fast and Furious could be very good popcorn movie fun. There’s a lot to think about the future of this movie, for instance, how would the fact that Mia and Brian being parents play a part in the next Fast and Furious, and with the way that Fast Five ended, there is room for Johnson’s appearance in the next movie.

Just under a week ago, we reported that Angelina Jolie was in talks to join Luc Besson’s next movie. And while she isn’t even 100% sure she will be signing on, we do know that she is the current frontrunner to star in Besson’s next dramatic-thriller with true science scientific elements. That’s how secretive it is, we don’t even know what the movie is about, just that the premise is science related. Now comes word, from Deadline, that Universal has just bought the rights to distribute the film.

Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp will co-finance along with the major studio, with plans to shoot sometime in 2012. According to the report, this would be Jolie’s next film as an actress, before before she teams with director Ridley Scott on a historical epic about Gertrude Bell. She will move on the Maleficent, the Linda Woolverton-scripted revisionist take on the Sleeping Beauty tale for Walt Disney Pictures, and she is getting closer to playing medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in the Fox 2000 drama based on the Patricia Cornwell novel series.

But her final 2011 feature will be her directorial and screenwriting debut. In the Land of Blood and Honey will be released later this month, just in time for an Oscar qualifying run, before it opens in wide release.

I never had to go through an entire semester or term of sex ed. In fact all I had to learn about sex came from me sneaking into a theater to watch American Pie. You know movie hopping. And I remember the poster for American Pie as much as the movie itself. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the American Reunion poster looks vaguely similar to the first movie poster for American Pie.

While the first American Pie poster had a lot of skin and boob, this one doesn’t Look at the American Reunion title blocking Tara Reid’s chest, now look at the America Pie poster, see the difference? The American Reunion poster also shows the history that has happened between this movie and the first one.

While the movie posters does bare resemblance to each other, it looks as though none of the actors actually participated in the photo process. In fact another similarity between the two is that the posters look photoshopped. Thanks to Slashfilm (via movies.com) for these two posters.

In addition to all the returning cast members — which include Jason Biggs, Allison Hannigan, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Tara Reid, as pictured, as well as Eugene Levy, Shannon Elizabeth, and Jennifer Coolidge are all coming back for an American Reunion and will feature franchise newcomers Chuck Hittinger, Jay Harrington, Ali Cobrin, Dania Ramirez, and Katrina Bowden. Directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the film hits April 6, 2012.

Here is the synopsis for the movie:

In the comedy American Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago are returning to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. In one long-overdue weekend, they will discover what has changed, who hasn’t and that time and distance can’t break the bonds of friendship. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stifler’s mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce about—and get inspired by—the hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.

Pop culture likes to think that guys are commitaphobes, being unable to say I love you or stay in a long-term relationship is just not part of the “guy code.” But not the couple in The Five-Year Engagement. The comedy comes from Nick Stoller, director of the hilarious movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and tells the story of a couple who has to constantly postpone their marriage due to changes in their lives. Promotions, moves, funerals, etc. The movie stars Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as the couple who try to get married.

Based on the trailer alone, the movie looks like it has a lot of heart and honest. Which makes it all the more relatable. It doesn’t even look like it would be over the top or quite as edgy as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but it also embraces the same style of comedy.

Check out the trailer for The Five-Year Engagement below, and watch it in HD on Yahoo! Movies.

Beginning where most romantic comedies end, this film looks at what happens when an engaged couple keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.

The Five-Year Engagement also stars Rhys Ifans, Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Kevin Hart, Mindy Kaling and Chris Parnell. The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on April 27th, 2012.

The hip-hop culture has thrived on Brian De Palma’s Scarface. And why not, many of the hip-hop lyrics fits into the rags from riches story that is present in the film So its only fair that Scarface get a contemporary telling that could fit into that hip-hop mold. While the film is a cult hit amongst the film community, it wasn’t well-received by its critics. In addition, the film is actually an update of a 1932 film of the same name directed by Howard Hawkes. Both Scarface films follow an immigrant whose rise to power in the world of drugs and gangs is just as fast as his fall. Back in September we reported that Universal was putting the reimaging of Scarface into motion, and now the studio has hired a writer to pen the script for the film.

According to Deadline, Training Day writer David Ayer has been brought in to write a contemporary version of Scarface, but it won’t be a reimagining of the previous two films.

This is a fantasy for me, I can still remember when I saw the film at 13 and it blew my mind. I sought it out; I went after it hard. I see it as the story of the American dream, with a character whose moral compass points in a different direction. That puts it right in my wheelhouse. I studied both the original Ben Hecht-Howard Hawks movie and the DePalma-Pacino version and found some universal themes. I’m still under the hood figuring out the wiring that will translate, but both films had a specificity of place, there was unapologetic violence, and a main character who socially scared the shit out of people, but who had his own moral code. Each was faithful to the underworld of its time. There are enough opportunities in the real world today that provide an opportunity to do this right. If it was just an attempt to remake the 1983 film, that would never work.

Knowing that this Scarface is not a remake of the 1983 film is a breath of fresh air, and Ayer acknowledging that a remake would never work is a welcomed statement. Certainly the focus of this (and all Scarface movies) film will be on an immigrant whose rise to power comes at a price. So as long as Ayer and whomever will direct the film doesn’t lose sight of that, I am sure this Scarface can share the limelight with its predecessors, may be it could be better.

Jeremy Renner is making the press rounds for Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, and that means he is going to come across questions for the new Bourne movie, The Bourne Legacy. Jeremy Renner will be the new killer agent trained by Jason Bourne.

While plot details haven’t been revealed, for this Bourne film we do know that Jeremy Renner will be joining Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn. It has also been said that this Bourne is parallel to the existing Bourne movies. So we may have a few Bourne questions answered.

In an interview with Empire, Renner said this about The Bourne Legacy,

My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.

…it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.

Bascially Renner is reiterating that the new Bourne movie is just a reboot. But I like where this new Bourne movie is going, it also helps to know that the cast supports the film too.

Jeremy Renner will lead The Bourne Legacy when it hits theaters on August 3, 2012.

Producing nostalgic cartoons like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Yogi Bear have been a growing trend lately and now Universal and Ullumination Entertainment is looking to get into the game by producing an adaptation of Woody Woodpecker. According to Heat Vision reports that Universal picked up the rights to all of the shorts and the character himself from cartoonist Walter Lantz back in 1985. Woody Woodypecker became a cult hit in the 1950s, and was even a nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song for its animated short, the only animated short to be ever nominated. The move to capitalize on the asset mirrors an effort throughout Hollywood to mine value from properties that studios already own.

Illumination and the writers will seek to create a story that modernizes the character, hopefully launching a franchise in the process. John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, who co-wrote the Will Ferrell comedy Blades of Glory, are in talks to develop a story.

The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal have been working on the SEAL TEAM 6 movie long before the actual Seal Team 6 killed Osama Bin Laden. Of course they had to adjust their story from a failed mission to a successful one due to current events. But since that time Joel Edgerton was the only actor attached to a role. Now Deadline reports that The Chicago Code’s Jason Clarke will be joining the cast of the Seal Team Six movie adaptation. According to the report Clarke will play as “a terrorist hunter in service of the U.S. efforts to hunt Bin Laden.”

Unfortunately the report fails to mention what became of Edgerton’s role. And due to scheduling conflicts, the actor might not even get a chance to appear in the movie. Also being discussed for roles are Tom Hardy (who also stars in Wettest County), Jennifer Ehle (Contagion), Guy Pearce (who starred in Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker), Idris Elba, Rooney Mara (upcoming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Nina Arianda (Midnight In Paris).

An Americanized Oldboy has been in the works for quite some time now. Spike Lee is at the helm, but the film still lacks a lead actor to play as the imprisoned father who is mysteriously let out after 15 years of imprisonment. According to Twitch, Colin Firth is up for the role of the imprisoned person who is on a quest for revenge. The film is written by Mark Protosevich, will have Colin Firth playing as main character named Adrian. I think that this is the perfect choice because we have seen Firth play a wide range of characters in the past. With Adrian being such an emotionally taxing character there is no doubt in my mind that Firth should serve as an excellent casting choice for the American adaptation. Josh Brolin also stars in the film as the antagonist.

In an earlier report, we had Bruce Campbell appearing in a cameo role in Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Unfortunately that won’t be happening. But don’t worry there were no quarrels between the two friends. The thing that was preventing the actor from appearing was presumably his schedule on Burn Notice (again I am just guessing). Here is the official tweet (via slashfilm), “My scene in Oz has been cut before the shooting. It happens on epic flicks. Disappointed, but all good w/Sam. On to the next adventure!”

Finally Universal has picked up the rights to adapt Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel’s novel Lunatics and has tapped Steve Carell to play as the lead role in the film. According to Deadline the film is about a couple of soccer dads in New Jersey who get into a minor scuffle that somehow escalates into an Earth-shattering event that sounds more than a little outrageous. The film will also be produced through Carell’s production company Carousel Productions. The book itself will hit stores in January.

There is an obvious difference between Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman and Relativity’s Mirror, Mirror. One of those differences is that Snow White and the Huntsman is the darker of the two and possesses none of those bright cartoony colors in Mirror, Mirror. But don’t let me tell you that, you can watch the trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman starring Kristen Stewart as our warrior hero Snow White, Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman tasked to kill her, and Charlize Theron as the evil queen who wants her dead.

To be honest I never thought that this would look this good. I especially like the mirror effects that are used in this. Watching the mirror materialize into a humanoid fourtune-teller was pretty amazing. But we saw a lot of Hemsworth and Theron, and little of Stewart. Hopefully that doesn’t say anything abouther performance, because by the looks of it, this has gotten my attention and I can’t wait to see the next trailer.

Snow White and the Huntsman will be released on June 1, 2012. Watch the trailer in HD at Apple.

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar(r) winner Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power. The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.
