Its only natural to ask a cast or crew member about future projects during press rounds, and that is the cast for David Fincher, who making the press rounds for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was asked about the status for Cleopatra, House of Cards, The Goon, Black Hole, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. While the David Fincher doesn’t know if he will be directing those films, he remains the only person attached to those projects.

The massive queue may seem intimidating, but the projects themselves are very intriguing. David Fincher would be directing Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie attached to star as the titular role, then there’s Netflix series House of Cards. He’s also got 20,0000 Leagues Under the Sea on his slate, and he’s still working as a producer on films like Black Hole (based on the Charles Burns graphic novel, not the Disney sci-fi film) and let’s not forget his first animated feature The Goon.

David Fincher first talked to MTV News about Cleopatra (our coverage), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network producer Scott Rudin is producing, and which has Angelina Jolie attached to play the title character, but might not even have Fincher on as a director:

That’s something I would love to do with Angie… It’s something that was brought to me that you have to take seriously. Scott has this wonderful book [by Stacy Schiff] and hopefully Eric can find a way in. I’m not interested in a giant sword and sandal epic.

We’ve seen scope; everyone knows we can fake that. That stuff doesn’t impress in the way that it did even 10 years ago. We expect that from cable. So that’s not the reason to do that. What is it about this character that has purchased this place in our history and imagination that is relatable today?

And on the subject of Cleopatra, Fincher told Collider that the film is still in the earliest stages:

Cleopatra, I haven’t even begun. I’ve just spoken with Angie [Jolie] and Eric [Roth] and I’m trying to figure out how to weigh in. It’s just a discussion about what can it be, what are people expecting, what do we need to do to destroy that?

Fincher also confirmed that he’ll direct the pilot for the new version of House of Cards that Netflix will air with Kevin Spacey and Robin Write starring,

I’m casting and I’m going to Washington and Baltimore this weekend to look at locations.

Of Course there’s the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (check out our coverage here) project he is working on, but will not rush into:

I don’t know what came before me. We’re plugging away, trying to get a script that sort of satisfies all of the… you know, it’s a tricky thing because it’s a $200 million 3D thing done in water, and you don’t want to go off half-cocked. You can find yourself with a $75 million overage in a movie that completely takes place underwater, especially in 3D. 3D is a whole different thing for reflective sources.

The Goon (no not the hockey movie starring Jay Brushel and Seann William Soctt) has been something I’ve been The animated feature based on Eric Powell’s comic of the same name can’t seem to nail down a financier. Here’s what Fincher told SHH.

Eric’s been working on it and Tim’s been working on it [Tim Miller from Blur Animation], and Jeff (Fowler). People continue to work on it and refine stuff, but it’s hard for me because I’m in Sweden, so I can’t really make many production meetings, but the attempt is to in January really go out and try and figure out a price that makes sense… I don’t know why you can spend $200 million on The incredibles but you can’t spend $50 million on The Goon,’or $130 million on Kung Fu Panda and $50 million on The Goon.

Fincher also sounds like he’s still working on the adaptation of Charles Burns‘ incredible and disturbing graphic novel Black Hole:

It’s a really great script by Dante Harper, so the hope is that will win out… It’s so weird. It’s so great, because it would be great to see. It’s a very tough… there’s make-up FX and digital FX that are expensive and to do it right, you gotta do it just right, because it has to challenge your idea of the human body.

I think it is pretty unanimous to say that the Coen Brothers are probably the greatest directors of our generation. Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, A Serious Man, and True Grit, and that is only the tip of the iceberg. Now Variety is reporting that the directing duo will be working on a film called Inside Llewyn Davis. The story, also written by the Coens, follows Llewyn Davis as he navigates the folk scene in 1960s New York City. Scott Rudin and Robert Graf will act as producers for this biopic with Graf acting as executive producer.

The Coen Brothers, Rudin, and Graf have worked together on the Academy Award nominated True Grit, which was both a commercial and critical success. And this is not the first time that the Coen Brothers dealt this musical themes. The brothers previously directed O Brother Where Art Thou, which scored two Academy Award nominations and earned a Grammy for Best Soundtrack.

Jesse Eisenberg may be set to reunite with his Social Network producer for counter-terrorism film based around another tech-savy youth who makes money off the counter-terrorism game. Scott Rudin has just optioned “The Terrorist Search Engine,” to adapt as a starring vehicle for Jesse Eisenberg. The project is based on a recent New York Magazine profile of controversial counter terrorism expert witness Evan Kohlmann.

Search Engine is set up at Sony’s Columbia Pictures, where Rudin had The Social Network. Vulture says that Eisenberg will make a decision about his involvement after reading a script.

Wesley Yang wrote the story, which details “how the downy-cheeked-but-web-savvy Kohlmann — dubbed “the Doogie Howser of Terrorism” by an FBI agent when he was just 23 — has helped convict 23 defendants in federal courts and Guantánamo Bay tribunals with his expert witness testimony. Now 31, Kohlmann is a controversial figure who has made testifying at such trials his principal source of income and earned a reputation in some circles as “working in the ‘guilty-verdict industry.’”

Yang made the following statement about the project, “As I was reporting it it, I felt like it was a very cinematic story.”

This sounds like a very interesting film and certainly caters to Eisenberg’s recent typecast as the over intelligent, computer savvy young person.

Paramount and Scott Rudin are teaming together for a new Christmas comedy that will feature battling Santas. Mike White set to write the script for the film as well.

The comedy is based on the true story of rival factions that developed within a union of professional Santa Clauses who became arch enemies during a Santa Claus civil war. Rudin will produce along with Mike White and his Rip Cord Prods. Rudin and White worked together previously on School of Rock and Orange County.

I am sort of Jack Black fan and could totally see him in this movie and what would be funny is to have Seth Rogen in the other faction and they are both the rivals.

I love Christmas movies as an FYI, so I am somewhat excited to see this film and hear more about it as it gets developed. Lastly, I am kind of miffed that I haven’t heard anything from School of Rock 2, last we heard they were doing a sequel revolving around a cross country tour. Parts of the film are going to be filmed in Memphis.

Earlier this year we found out that the Coen Brothers, who brought us films like The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading and a plethora of other cult classics, would be remaking the classic John Wayne film, True Grit.

Now it seems as if The Dude! Jeff Bridges, may reunite with his Lebowski directors for True Grit. The picture, which also reunited the Coens with their No Country for Old Men producing partner Scott Rudin, has been redrafted by the Coens to be more faithful to the Charles Portis novel that the original film was based on.

The film revolves around a 14 year old girl who tags along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman to track the outlaw who killed her father. The trail leads them into hostile Indian territory. The original told the story from Cogburn’s vantage point, but the new version will work from the viewpoint of the young girl. Kim Darby played the young girl in the original, and Glen Campbell played the other lawman. The 1969 classic one John Wayne an Oscar.

The Coen Brothers will be releasing there next film at the Toronto Film Festival, A Serious Man. Bridges will next be seen in Men Who Stare At Goats and The long awaited Tron sequel, Tron: Legacy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan will be writing a new adaptation of the classic story Brewster’s Millions.

Brewster’s Millions is a classic story that has been around for awhile. Originally a novel by George Barr McCutcheon released in 1902 and it became a play in 1906. It got its first film adaptation in 1945 starring Dennis O’Keefe, directed by Allan Dwan. In 1985 the film got a comedy boost with talents of the time, Richard Pryor and John Candy, starring and getting directed by Walter Hill.

The classic tale follows a man who gets $1 million from a rich grandfather. When a rich uncle dies, he leaves the man $7 million dollars but with one stipulation. The man has to spend the grandfather’s $1 million within a year and not end up with any assets from the spending spree in order to receive the $7 million. In the 80s version the jackpot was elevated a little with the terms of the will stipulating that Brewster is challenged to spend $30 million within 30 days in order to inherit $300 million.

Diliberti and Sullivan got the gig coming off the buzz generated by their script Comic Con. That buddy comedy revolves around two friends who form a” justice league of comic geeks to plan and execute a daring heist at Comic-Con in order to save their beloved neighborhood comic shop from the clutches of an evil corporate takeover.”

The scribes met while attending the Johns Hopkins University. Sullivan segued into stand-up comedy, and Diliberti spent several years as an assistant to Scott Rudin, acting as an associate producer on the Rudin-produced Stop-Loss.

Production began last week in Los Angeles on the “untitled” film starring Ben Stiller for writer/director Noah Baumbach, an Academy Award nominee for his original screenplay of The Squid and the Whale (which he also directed). Scott Rudin, an Academy Award winner as producer of No Country for Old Men, and Jennifer Jason Leigh are producing the movie, to which Focus Features holds worldwide rights.

The script is an original story by Baumbach and revolves around, Roger Greenberg (Stiller), who at a crossroads in his life, ends up housesitting at his brother’s home in Los Angeles. There, he strikes up an unlikely friendship with his brother’s assistant Florence (Greta Gerwig - Hannah Takes the Stairs), an aspiring singer. Florence and Greenberg’s encounters lead to an uncertain and wonderfully vulnerable courtship.

The film will also star Rhys Ifans, playing Greenburg’s (Stiller) friend Ivan. Other supporting cast members include: Mark Duplass (2009 Sundance Film Festival’s Humpday), Brie Larson (United States of Tara), and Juno Temple (Atonement); Jennifer Jason Leigh will also costar in the film.

Focus Feature’s CEO, James Schamus, mentioned, in the press release we received, that this is a movie that will “that will showcase Ben as an actor” and I have to agree. I am so used to seeing him in comedies in which he typically plays the same type of comedic characters but putting him in this indie drama will be interesting to see. The script sounds good and I really like Baumbach’s writing abilities so this movie should be good.

We will keep everyone posted on the film especially once it gets a title.
