It’s not everyday you get to see the nice guy play a villain, and Denzel Washington, who has played either a hero or a mentor more times than I can count, can play both. I just wished that we could see him play nasty more often. Luckily I am getting that with Safe House. The actor, who has played as two villains in his career Alonso Harris in Training Day and Frank Lucas in American Gangster, will play as Tobin Frost in Daniel Espinosa’s action thriller. Washington will star opposite Ryan Reynolds in the movie. But just how bad ass will Washington be in the movie? You will just have to find out in this clip below.

Check out the latest clip from Daniel Espionsa’s actioner Safe House. Check it out in HD on IGN.

Safe House tells the story of a young CIA agent tasked with watching over Tobin Frost, America’s most dangerous terrorist. But he has to go far beyond his babysitting duties when the safe house is compromised and keep the terrorist alive while also keeping him within his sights.

Opening in theaters on Febuary 10th, Safe House stars Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington, Vera Farmiga, Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick, and Joel Kinnaman.

It you put Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynold’s resume die-by-side, you would see that both have done quite a few (and rather dull) romantic comedies. Still its those movies that got them where they are today. So now their paths cross for the very first time in a movie that will be produced by Tim Burton.

The movie, titled Big Eyes, will focus around a married couple Margaret and Walter Keane. In the 1950s and 60s, Walter was a very popular artist, but soon became the subject of a scandal when he divorced from his wife, Margaret, and that his works of art weren’t his own, but that of his wife’s.

Big Eyes doesn’t sound like the generic romantic comedy the two are normally attached too, which in many ways is a good thing. But I am surprised that I am not seeing Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter attached to this project.

Ed Wood collaborators Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski will co-write and direct the project.

Universal has unveiled its first trailer for the high-octane action thriller Safe House, starring Ryan Reynolds as a desk jockey CIA agent who must escort a highly intelligent criminal, played by Denzel Washington, out after the safe house has been compromised. But all is not what it seems and every time our protagonists think they are in the clear, things take a turn for the worst. The supporting cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Sam Shepard, Vera Farmiga, Robert Patrick, Fares Fares, Nora Arnezeder, Liam Cunningham and Joel Kinnaman. This looks like a lot of fun.

You can check out the trailer below or in HD at Apple.com.

Oscar(R) winner Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds star in the action-thriller Safe House. Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he’s remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead. For the past year, Matt Weston has been frustrated by his inactive, backwater post in Cape Town. A “housekeeper” who aspires to be a full-fledged agent, the loyal company man has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself.

When the first and only occupant he’s had proves to be the most dangerous man he’s ever met, Weston readies for duty. Tobin Frost has eluded capture for almost a decade. One of the best ops men that the CIA’s known, the ex-intelligence officer has given up assets and sold military intel to anyone with cash since he turned. From trading secrets to North Korea to aiding splinter cells, the damage he’s done to the U.S. is immeasurable. And he’s now back on the reservation with a secret. As soon as Frost is brought in for debriefing, mercenaries come and tear apart Weston’s safe house. Barely escaping, the unlikely partners must discover if their attackers have been sent by terrorists or someone on the inside who will kill anyone standing in the way. Now it’s up to Weston to figure out who he can trust before they’re both eliminated from the game.

Now that the X-Men: First Class DVD and Blu-ray has hit the shelves, the future of the X-Men cinematic universe is now a mystery. But producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been making the press rounds to promote the film and drop a few hints about future X-Men related projects.

In an interview with Hitfix, Donner talked about The Wolverine, the first spinoff sequel for the X-Men film franchise.

..[We want] to distinguish it from the other one… I’m not sure when we’ll start. Maybe summer 2012 we’ll start shooting. It’s based on Hugh [Jackman]‘s schedule, frankly. When he’s available, we’ll film. …He’s doing ‘Les Miserables’, and then he has to come and train for us. So it’s all dependent on him.”

So many things could happen between now and Summer 2012. The start of filming keeps getting pushed back, and even though he (Hugh Jackman) is signed on for sequels, it doesn’t mean he cannot sign on for other roles. I am glad that Donner is optimistic about shooting the film, but waiting for Jackman wto have a free spot on his schedule can be grueling.

I am Rogue talked about Deadpool with Donner, and he confirmed the Ryan Reynolds would be reprising the role of the titular character.

“We’re working on getting it ready,” she continued, “and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It’s a different kind of movie. If you know ‘Deadpool’ …it’s true to ‘Deadpool’. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that.”

Again, we have been hearing that this project will be produced over and over. While the details are not new at all, its good to hear that Reynolds is confirmed for the role.

In an interview with Total Film, Donner confirmed that Tim Miller is still attached to direct The Wolverine and that it will be a different experience for the character since his on-screen appearance in the first X-Men: Origins.

“He was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him,” Donner said, “…We have a few more things to do and then it’s up to the studio to decide whether we’re going to go forward or not.”

Acknowledging that the first film was not the best, is an excellent form of humility. So now that they realize the errors in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, we can expect a film that can be accepted by the everday audience and critics.

Finally in the interview with Hitfix, Donner expressed hope that director Matthew Vaughn would return to direct the sequel for X-Men: First Class. Now while the first class roster wasn’t the best, Home Media Magazine asked if fan-favorites like Cyclops or Jean Grey would be added to the cast in the sequel. To which Donner said,

“Maybe,” she said, “Let’s just say, I hope so.”

Executives believe that it came down to the execution and not the concept. As proof that the concept is working, WB execs believe that the film had a rather decent opening at the box office. President Jeff Robinov, pointing to the film’s box office debut of $53 million. “To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action…. And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”

Warner Bros. already has an outline for a sequel on hand written by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who all worked on the script for the original. However, several people familiar with the thinking of executives there, who were not authorized to speak on the record, say Warner will likely make significant changes to the outline - if not start over from scratch, in developing a sequel.

The studio also believes that not only does the film’s edge need to change, but also its director. Martin Campbell was the first to helm the Green Lantern, and the studio believes that the people want a new director.

Kevin Bacon may have been one of the best villains we have seen in 2011. She already showed that darker side of him in X-Men: First Class and Super, but now the actor is in negotiations to star opposite alongside Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D., the Dark Horse comic adaptation directed by Robert Schwentke.

Variety is not going into any specifics about who Bacon will be playing.Reynolds will be playing a character who is killed and then joins the Rest In Peace Detectives to find out who killed him. Chances are he will be looking for Bacon. But that is just mere speculation.

Jeff Bridges also stars in R.I.P.D. and will play as a detective who partners with Reynold’s character.

I still don’t know what to make of this film, the premise of the RIPD sounds interesting enough and the casting of Bridges and Bacon certainly adds to it, but the one thing that is on everyone’s minds is Reynolds’ ability to sell a movie based on his own star power. He has had quite a few hits, but he isn’t that much of a draw now that Green Lantern flopped.

The film is currently scheduled for a June 28 2013 release.

My, how has the Green Lantern grown from something that looks unwatchable to a potential blockbuster after the release of a few trailers. Warner Brothers has released the second trailer for the upcoming film based on the DC hero of the same name, and boy does it outshine any of the clips and trailers we have seen in the past. Of course, the trailer adds some new clips that no one has ever seen, not even scenes that were featured at this year’s WonderCon. We also get to hear Michael Clarke Duncan voice Kilowog for the very first time.

Overall, the trailer looks very polished and the suit’s effects no longer looks as though it was copy and pasted. Still, it does not change the fact that the film relies heavily on CGI and it will never achieve that sense of realism. But its fun to see Hal Jordan being trained by Sinserto and Kilowag and it be exciting to watch whatever Hal Jordan thinks of and bring it into reality. You can watch the trailer below and give your thoughts on how the film has changed from its first trailer release to the one we are seeing now.

Green Lantern hits theaters on both 2D and 3D screens on June 17 of this year.

Another switch bodies comedy, except this one is going to be funny as shit, assuming none of the big funny parts are in the trailer, but Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman together is always a solid thing. The trailer is good too, love the moment with Leslie Mann and she ends up taking a shit. Freaking hilarious!

Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman star in The Change-Up, from director David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), writers Jon Lucas & Scott Moore (The Hangover) and producer Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious, Click). The R-rated comedy takes the traditional body-switching movie, ties it up tightly and throws it off a cliff.

Growing up together, Mitch (Reynolds) and Dave (Bateman) were inseparable best friends, but as the years have passed they’ve slowly drifted apart. While Dave is an overworked lawyer, husband and father of three, Mitch has remained a single, quasi-employed man-child who has never met a responsibility he liked. To Mitch, Dave has it all: beautiful wife Jamie (Leslie Mann), kids who adore him and a high-paying job at a prestigious law firm. To Dave, living Mitch’s stress free life without obligation or consequence would be a dream come true.

Following a drunken night out together, Mitch and Dave’s worlds are turned upside down when they wake up in each other’s bodies and proceed to freak the fuck out.

Despite the freedom from their normal routines and habits, the guys soon discover that each other’s lives are nowhere near as rosy as they once seemed. Further complicating matters are Dave’s sexy legal associate, Sabrina (Olivia Wilde), and Mitch’s estranged father (Alan Arkin). With time not on their side, Mitch and Dave comically struggle to avoid completely destroying each other’s lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back.

The Change-Up comes to theaters August 5th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde, Leslie Mann. The film is directed by David Dobkin.

When we got our first look at the Green Lantern costume in the official trailer, the costume was universally panned. Critics and fans cited the copy and paste look on Ryan Reynolds. Flashforward a few months and those opinions seem to do a complete 180 as the costume was praised for looking more polished during a preview at WonderCon. Now WB has released three detailed images of Ryan Reynolds in the suit, and when I say detailed, I mean it. Thanks to Breaking Newsvia Comingsoon.net for releasing the images online.

So what do you think of the images? In my opinion, I am glad we are seeing these images now rather than before when the suit wasn’t as sharp and I am loving the suit more and more. Of course, there will be those who will be talking about the feet, but I will leave all the judgement calls up to you. Leave your thoughts below.

As any Green Lantern fan would tell you, Hal Jordan isn’t the only person who possesses a ring with the power to solidify anything he, she, or it imagines. The ring(s) are also worn by aliens spanning across many universes and some of those aliens are introduced to us during the first trailer. Rather than have the actual actors portray some of the aliens, WB decided to use actors with the motion capture, and waited until after the film’s initial completetion to hire actors for the voices. Among the actors to voice these aliens are Geoffrey Rush and Michael Clarke Duncan.

The Hero Complex reports that Rush will voice the alien Tomar-Re, the alien with a beak like facial structure while LatinoReview reports that Duncan will voice the larger than life alien Kilowog.

Tomar was a scientist on the planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members, like Arisia, and serving in the Honor Guard. He investigated reports of abuses of power by Sinestro on Korugar. He was close friends with Abin Sur, Green Lantern of neighboring sector 2814. Kilowog is renowned throughout the Green Lantern Corps as the primary trainer of the Corps’ newest recruits. The Guardians of the Universe recruited Kilowog, a gifted genetic scientist, from the planet Bolovax Vik, located in Space Sector 674.

Green Lantern is directed by Martin Campbell and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard and Mark Strong and will be arriving in theaters starting on June 17th this summer.

If you are wondering what has happened to the marketing for WB’s upcoming The Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, you are not alone. Ever since the first trailer came out with a negative reception, we have seen Super Bowl spots and Theatrical trailers for films like Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and X-Men: First Class, but no promotions or advertising for The Green Lantern.

According to Warner Bros. motion picture group president Jeff Robinov, a final trailer should be attached to Thor on May 6 and the reason why we haven’t seen any new marketing materials is because the intricate special effects scenes are taking longer to compete than originally anticipated.

In an interview with The LA Times, Robinov discussed the potential Justice League Movie, the Batman reboot, and the lack of marketing for The Green Lantern. The president cites,

We are on a learning curve in getting 3-D materials and marketing materials on the same schedule. [The advertising campaign] has been delayed strictly from production….We won’t be in this position again.

The studio is fully aware of how the trailer was received with audiences, president of worldwide marketing, Sue Kroll, had to say:

Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren’t ready to show, and we suffered for it. We can’t afford to do that again.

It’s a smart move for WB to be holding back on the marketing for this film until everything was ready. But for a studio wait this long might indicate that the film was not ready for its trailer debut in the first place and might have been better off making its debut at a later time.
