Over the past year we have heard on and off again stories related to Jurassic Park IV. For awhile it seemed that this project would never as delays, script changes and other priorities insued. Jurassic Park III director, Joe Johnston, who will be directing the Marvel Studios adaptation of Captain America next has been the only consistent person telling us the project is go. He didn’t shy away from telling Boxoffice Magazine that there was plans for a whole new trilogy.

“Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three-it’s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way. That’s pretty much all I can tell you.”

A whole new trilogy sounds interesting. I wonder if it will be a complete reboot or if the project will just emerge itself separately within the previous laid out universe. I’d like to see the Dino-geddon idea come out but something and related to Jurassic Park I am down with.

Johnston also talked about what to expect with Captain America, his next project for Marvel Studios. The consensus of his state revolves around his idea for the use of the character and how they plan to explore the nature of Steve Rogers and his new abilities of super strength.

“It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It’s the origin story of Captain America. It’s mostly period-there are modern, present-day bookends on it-but it’s basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America. The great thing about Captain America is he’s a super hero without any super powers. Which is why this story, among the hundreds of super hero stories appealed to me the most. He can’t fly, he can’t see through walls, he can’t do any of that stuff. He’s an every man who’s been given this amazing gift of transformation into the perfect specimen-the pinnacle of human perfection. How does that affect him? What does that mean for him emotionally and psychologically? He was this 98-pound weakling, he was this wimp, and he’s transformed instantly into this Adonis. You’d think he got everything he wanted. Well, he didn’t get everything he wanted. The rules change at that point and his life gets even more complicated and dire. For me, that’s the interesting part of the story. It’s got some great action sequences in it and some incredible stuff that we’ve never seen before. But at the heart of it, it’s a story about this kid who all he wants to do is fit in. This thing happens and he still doesn’t fit in. And he has to prove himself a hero-essentially go AWOL to save a friend. Eventually at the very end, I don’t want to give away to much, but he does fit in. But it’s the journey of getting him there that’s interesting. And it’s a lot of fun.”

I like Johnston’s analysis of the character and how they plan to use him and explore the themes he brings with him. Captain America is hopefully going to be a great film with lots to offer the world of comic book heroes to film. Johnston is a capable director with a nice vision. We only need to wait now for who they will cast as Steve Rogers in this adaptation, the film has a planned release for sometime in July of 2011.

We even posted about it a few months ago when Hasbro announced the revival of the toyline.

Now AICN is reporting that Jurassic Park III director Joe Johnston, who’s next project is Marvel’s Captain America film, chatted with them about the film while on the set of the Wolfman ( his most recent film).

“There is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it’s nothing like the first three. It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved.”

“We’ve done that and it’s been done three times. Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it’s sort of about studios and Steven’s thing and who knows. I think we are at that point where we are due for another one if we are going to do it. They had what four years between them? 1992… 1996 or 1997, and then 2001, so we are past due. I don’t know, but we will see.”

Sounds like everything we have ever heard about this project which just seems to be in development hell and rightfully so because of what Johnston said, you have to do something new that hasn’t been done before. I wrote a treatment for a new trilogy that revolves around a “new” company, Biosyn (Dodson’s company – the guy that bought off Nedry in film one) had bought out Ingen and succeeded where they had failed by bringing the research to a whole new level combining nanotechnology and genetic engineering. You have the mixture of life-size dinos like we love but then there are these dinopets that people own.Anyway I not going to write anymore because its not that bad of an idea and it brings everyone back as well in a creative and non-cheesy way. It is sort of the Dino-geddon route though.

Anyway I doubt we will see a Jurassic Park IV anytime soon but one thing I am sure if they did another one and Spielberg produced i am sure it would be 3D and such and maybe filmed like Avatar, that would be interesting.
