I came across an interesting article over at our friends at Jo-Blo. I have been working on my itinerary for Comic-Con and with the recent release of the programming schedule it seems everything is officially set in stone for an awesome year at SDCC.

But what is it we won’t see? Avatar, Iron Man 2, 2012, Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day, District 9, Alice In Wonderland, Tron 2, New Moon will all be there but what about Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Scott Pilgrim?

Last year Wolverine surprised everyone as they were not on the programming schedule and lucky fans got to see the first trailer courtesy of Hugh Jackman.

Jo-Blo says “there promises to be some surprises as well. We’re privy to some of them (and don’t ask, cause I’m not talkin) and I think you’ll be happy.”

However here are some films that should be at SDCC this year but are absent from the schedules. I picked 5 movies that I thought should make an appearance at Comic-Con some are very much like Jo-Blo some are different. I also included a Surprise Meter which includes our antipation mixed with the actual possibility of a surprise from the studio.

1. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - Having just started to read this series I can tell you without a doubt that it is going to be a great movie. That being said I wish we had something to see at Comic-Con. Edgar Wright has been open on his video blogs on the production but is there any footage to screen yet? This could be a surprise for us but for right now it is one of those that may hit WonderCon or something later in the year.

Surprise Meter – 8/10

Definitely a high possibility and definitely a high anticipation level to see something on this.

2. The Expendables- One of my most anticipated films of 2010, Sly Stallone brings the kick back in kick-ass! with this ode to the classic 80s action films. We were expecting to get some new footage maybe even a trailer featuring the cast and some crazy shit blowing up. Imagine if Hall H erupted because Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and the rest of the cast walked out on stage. That would be cool.

Surprise Meter – 7/10

Very high to see all those guys in one room but also any footage would be sweet and the possibility is there being they teased Cannes with posters what’s a little footage at Comic-Con.

3. The Green Lantern- Obviously this film is a long way off but I thought for sure it would have a small panel to possibly announce who Hal would be much like Star Trek did with Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy a few years ago. Ryan Reynolds is announced already so no Green Lantern surprise from Warner Brothers this year makes me sad.

Surprise Meter – 5/10

We already got the big announcement and with no footage yet or anything else major except casting the anticipation isn’t that high and neither is the likelyhood of a surprise visit from anyone.

4. Inception- A Comic-Con without Nolan is interesting. Though no Dark Knight or any Batman stuff in sight, it would have been cool to see some teaser material from Nolan’s latest project the sci-fi film featuring Leo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy and more. Another Warner Brother’s surprise may be waiting in the wings here but most likely not.

Surprise Meter – 8/10

Definitely a possibility being the film is scheduled for release next year and there is teaser stuff to show but Nolan may skip out in an attempt to not field anything to fans or press on The Dark Knight sequel.

5. Clash of the Titans- Warner Brothers hits the trifecta with us. Currently filming is the remake to this classic film and a huge cast is making up the feature directed by Louis Letterier. Shaping up to be one of 2010′s biggest movies for Warner Bros. They’ve already teased us with some early photos from the film so why not a little early footage at Comic-Con?

Surprise Meter – 6/10

I am not super pumped about seeing anything on this but I can say that the possibility of this making an appearance may be pretty high being that it is in the middle of production right now there may be enough for a teaser.

So I must say that Stallone must have written a hell of a script to acquire so much name and talent for his upcoming spy/mercenary thriller, The Expendables.
Earlier this week we posted about Forest Whitaker joining the project, now it turns out that The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke is joining the cast as well.

According to Variety,

“Mickey Rourke has joined the ranks of “The Expendables,” joining the ensemble of the Sylvester Stallone-directed action adventure for Nu Image/Millennium Films.”

The article is said to have Rourke playing a “unscrupulous arms dealer” that becomes a mole for the group of mercenaries.

The film already employs the cast of Stallone, Forest Whitaker, Jason Statham, Jet-Li and Randy Couture. With the exception of Couture, this is a pretty action-star cast. Ben Kingsley is reported to be circling the project as well.

The article also went on to say that the relationship between Rourke and Stallone is pretty good being that Rourke has mentioned that Stallone was the one who got him back into acting when he casted him in the film, Get Carter.

I remember hearing that Rourke would do any movie if they paid him $300,000, I do not beleive that is true but I hope he isn’t just picking this movie to do it. I forsee him having a lot to do since The Wrestler is critically acclaimed.

Rourke’s other post Wrestler film will be 13, the remake of the film “13 Tzameti“, which also stars Statham.

“Forest Whitaker is negotiating to join the cast of the action film “The Expendables,” Stallone’s latest writing and directing effort. Whitaker would play the CIA liaison for a group of mercenaries (played by Stallone, Jet Li, Randy Couture and Jason Statham) who are clandestinely sent to South America to overthrow a dictator.”Nu Image/Millennium Films is producing the film.
This sounds like a pretty badass! movie. I mean I am sure it will suck but the premise and the casting makes me think it will at least be entertaining. The casting alone means it could be a fun film.

So earlier this week we posted a stoy that Fox was working developing a 3rd Speed movie with the return of Keanu Reeves’ character Jack Traven.

Well IGN UK caught up with the actor and asked him about the rumor. Reeves basically responded with an emphatic “NO!” – saying,

“I don’t know if they are going to make another one, and if they are it won’t be with me… honestly!”

This is pretty much what we expected him to say, however, if the price is right minds can always be changed. He says NO now but that can change very quickly in this industry. I will say that i beleive that he has put Speed behind him and moved on or he would have done a sequel years ago but thats just me. Personally I would really like to see this movie.

So apparently a “scooper” at AICN has gotten wind of a script for Speed 3 floating around Hollywood.

In the article on AICN the scooper reports that,

“There’s a scriptment floating around that reintroduces Jack Traven. So the studios are hoping to get Keanu back on board.”

I have to say that the news is very interesting and hits me with a soft spot. Speed was the first R-rated movie I ever saw in a theater. It was actually a massively entertaining film. I liked the adrenaline pumping action and intense concept that Jan DeBont brought the movie that was “Die Hard on Wheels!”

My question is this and one that was asked by the writer of the AICN article and other bloggers who have reported this story,

“Would Keanu come back?”

I mean Reeves decided not to come back for the sequel so that he could further his career and do other things. Such things as The Matrix, Constantine and now The Day the Earth Stood Still. Yes there were some stinkers in their but it seems that he put Speed behind him and bringing himself back into a 3rd film, makes me believe that there is a good script there. I mean Bruce Willis came back as John McClane.

All that being said the interesting thing about this made me go back and read an article I once read on Slashfilm, long before Fused Film existed, talking about Dennis Hopper returning for the 3rd installment of Speed. Assuming this rumor still stands and Keanu comes back – I see the character of Jack Traven being haunted by a copycat character, maybe a son or apprentiss of Howard Payne and Hopper returns in visions or flashbacks of the baddie. I mean it worked for Saw right?

Either way as long as the film brings a good style and intensity to the “franchise” I see this being a movie that would work and certainly Keanu brings the star appeal to the film so as long as the dollars are good I see this being something we will hear more about soon.

So this is another comic-book movie that is confusing me as far as communications goes. Last we heard, a statement given by Sony Pictures, was that Maquire and Raimi signed on to star and direct Spider-man 4 based on a script by James Vanderbilt.

Vanderbilt had done multiple drafts before Raimi and Maquire signed on. So now, flash forward to 2 weeks ago where Sam Raimi talked about the film and seemed to know nothing about the script, villains or the movie in general and that he hoped to direct it.

Now here we are with news that according to The Hollywood Reporter, David Lindsay-Abaire, a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright in 2007 could very likely be writing the Spider-man 4. According to the trade, Abaire won the Pulitzer for his dramatic play Rabbit Hole.

Columbia is known for getting interesting choices to pen the Spider-man films. Penning the second and third films was dramatic writer Alvin Sargent (Ordinary People). Another Pulitzer writer, Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys), did some work on Spider-man 2.

As mentioned earlier this was a script that was also worked on at one time by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac). So I guess I have to assume is Raimi was right all along and somebody mis-communicated. I guess there wasn’t a script by Vanderbilt or it was not good so they are bringing in this guy to rework it.

The Newest trailer for the 22nd Bond film, this one really kicks ass! a great look at the movie that will most likely make the fall movies for me. that being said only 106 minutes long and one of the worst Bond theme songs ever…those things concern me. But Craig looks great and so does Olga Kuryelenko.

Synopsis –

Quantum of Solace continues the high octane adventure of James Bond from Casino Royale. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M interrogate Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the Genreal control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Green’s sinister plan and stop his organization.

Moreover, the guys pictured above are said to be interested in reprising their roles as LAPD officers Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. Over at Coming Soon they posted the following…

This time, homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

No further info was made available. Wow! creative, isn’t that the plot of all the movies, somebody is retiring and they get pulled in for one last case?

The fourth Lethal Weapon film was released 10 years ago and managed to gross $128 million domestically. I am gonna bet that Richard Donner could come back to direct this but should this movie happen? I mean I love the first 4 movies but the fourth film really had issues with annoyance, especially in the “I am too old for this shit!” category. I mean, now, Danny Glover is freakin old and Mel Gibson is hated by everyone in Hollywood. So my question is does the current Hollywood audience really need this movie? regardless of the 2 actors wanting to do it and Shane Black writing it.

Here is the one sheet and trailer for the latest Liam Neeson film, Taken. The film revolves around a former spy Bryan ( Liam Neeson) who relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace – from LOST), who has been kidnapped and forced into the slave trade. The film also stars Famke Janssen, Xander Berkelyy and Leland Orser.

The film is scheduled to be released September 19, 2008 and is directed by Pierre Morel and written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen.

I have to say the movie looks pretty badass! I like films where you see someone who will do what it takes to protect their family. John McClane was good at it and so was Jack Ryan. I like the idea of Neeson’s character being a retired spy and having to use his skills to get his daughter back. In the trailer the scene where he says, “Let them take you!” is awesome! Looks like a good movie and will be a good addition to the spy/suspense thrillers coming this fall throughout September to November. Oh yeah and Luc Besson writing it can’t be a bad thing either.

A couple of days ago, New Termintor, Director McG had a very extensive interview with The213.net . He talked about the film, and hinted that Josh Brolin might be the new terminator in his upcoming film, The Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

Comingsoon.net has the excerpt from the interview via The213.net:

“Asked who his “dream Terminator” would be? McG revealed, “…And there’s guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor – we’ll see.”

Another interesting tidbit is that although it has been rumored that John Connor has a small part, McG confirmed that those rumors were NOT true, and that John Connor is one of the main characters.

A movie starring Christian Bale and possibly Josh Brolin with killer machines?

I am kind of stuned about this pick for a Terminator is it comes true. Not in a bad way I just didn;t even consider him. He defintitely has that serious look about him. My hype for this film is getting higher but it is still too early to think about it.

The Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins starts shooting later this year.
