Producers of ‘The Road’ Acquire the Rights to Cormac McCarthy’s Script ‘The Counselor’

If you haven’t read any of Cormac McCarthy’s works, chances are you saw one of his works being adapted into a movie. The Road, Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horses, and No Country for Old Men are novels that have been turned into movies. Now one of McCarthy’s newest pieces will be turned into a movie yet again, only thing is, the acclaimed novelist wrote a screenplay.

According to Deadline, Cormac McCarthy’s first screenplay, titled The Counselor, has been purchased by the producers of The Road and is said to be in the same vein as No Country for Old Men. According to the report, the movie features “a respected lawyer who thinks he can dip a toe in to the drug business without getting sucked down. It is a bad decision and he tries his best to survive it and get out of a desperate situation.” Its no wonder the movie is being compared to No Country for Old Men.

The producers of The Road are Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz. Here is Schwartz explaining the most recent purchase.

Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.

Its interesting to see females being in the center of the movie, and quite frankly is refreshing to see females appear in a role dominated by males. So I am interested in seeing the progress of The Conselor, especially which two actresses they will cast.
