Fusedfilm’s Top 10 Movie Headlines of the Week
This week was a relatively slow week in terms of movie news. But we did see the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, learned that Sony intends to make sequels to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, found out why J.J. Abrams chose to have Star Trek 2 go under 3D conversions, and are celebrating Universal Pictures centennial. We also have our usual casting and directorial hires and very cool movie rumors. 10. Thor 2 Bits: Tom Hiddleston Says Shooting Begins in the Summer; Studio hires Saving Private Ryan Scribe Robert Rodat to Rewrite the Script.
It’s one thing to find out that Thor 2 is expected to shoot this summer, but is another thing to find out that Marvel Studios brought in a new script writer to rewrite the movie to the supposed shooting date. Still its good to know that Thor 2 is finally taking off after all the difficulties finding a director.
9. Warner Bros. Courting Jonathan Nolan to Rewrite Akira
In order for Akira to get out of its production limbo, Warner Bros. is considering bringing in Jonathan Nolan to curb the script problems it currently has. Since the movie is being put on hold, Garrett Hedlund has moved on to appear in Inside Llewyn Davis.
8. Kiefer Sutherland Hints at a Possible 24 Movie Start Date and Offers Details to the Plot
Though the movie is without a director and Kiefer Sutherland is the only one on the cast list, the actor hopes that the movie can start shooting in the summer. Sutherland also said that the film would take place six months after the events of its last season and keep the 24 hour aspect of the movie, but for obvious reasons it won’t be in real time.
7. Universal Pictures Celebrates Its Centennial and Will Restore 13 Classic
Paramount Pictures isn’t the only one celebrating its centennial. Its competitor, Universal Pictures, is also celebrating its 100th year as a movie studio. So how does a movie studio as large as Universal Pictures celebrate such a momentous occasion? Well you restore 13 of your classic titles.
6. Spielberg Gets One Huge Snub From the DGAs
The Directors Guild Association has just named Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), David Fincher (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Alexander Payne (The Descendants), and Martin Scorsese (Hugo) as the nominees of the DGA Awards.
5. SXSW Selects Cabin in the Woods as their Opening Film
South by Southwest (SXSW) has selected Lionsgate’s The Cabin in the Woods as its opening night film on March 9, marking the world premiere for the Joss Whedon scripted and produced horror vehicle. In addition to premiering the film, Whedon will participate in a panel at the SXSW Conference on March 10.
4. Joss Whedon Says The Avengers Will Be From Captain America’s Perspective
Joss Whedon reveals that most of the story will be from Captain America’s perspective.
“I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what my movie has to be about. So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers’ perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it.”
3. Andrew Stanton Says Paul Thomas Anderson Shot The Master on 65mm
As if I needed any more reason to watch Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, I find out that he shot it on 65mm, from Andrew Stanton (director of Wall-e and the upcoming John Carter). 2. Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom Trailer
This is one of the first Wes Anderson movies that I am actual anxious to see, after a few clunkers, or hits if you are looking it from a hipster point of view, Moonrise Kingdom looks like a heart felt film with quirky comedy, centralized camera angles, and Bill Murray. 1. Lionsgate Buys Summit Entertainment for $412.5 Million
As the subheading says, Lionsgate has acquired Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million. This comes after the movie studio who brought audiences The Twilight Saga grossed $2.5 billion worldwide. And that was just Breaking Dawn Part I.
