Robert Schwentke Officially Set to Direct R.I.P.D.
A few weeks ago we reported that Robert Schwentke was circling Universal’s Ryan Reynolds starrer, R.I.P.D. Now it seems that the director is officially set for the film.
We knew this was coming when we reported last week that his name was dropped from the shortlist for directors to helm X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2.
R.I.P.D. was created by Peter M. Lenkov for Dark Horse comics. Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss.
Ryan Reynolds is attached to play Nick Cruz, a cop who was murdered by an unknown assailant right at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately, his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!
Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi are writing the screenplay.
