Casting Couch: Shark Night 3D Cast Builds, Rami Malek, Phillip Seymour-Hoffman, Dwayne Johnson and Others Line-Up Projects

I have been sort of behind reporting on the all the tinsel town casting news from the past week. So I am dumping it all in this week’s Casting Couch article. First off, on the heels of the Piranha 3D acclaim, Shark Night 3D is casting away its film. The Rock is lining up another kids’ film, Rami Malik will joing the Twilight frenzy, and other actors you know and perhaps love are lining up projects as well.

>> Shark Night 3D Loads Up Cast

Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz and Joel David Moorehave joined the horror film, Shark Night 3D from director David R. Ellis (The Final Destination and Snakes on a Plane) and producer Mike Fleiss, according to Heat Vision. Also joining the cast of the film are Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan and Katharine McPhee, according to Variety.

Sinqua Walls is playing a Tulane University linebacker with plans on marrying his college sweetheart (Alyssa Diaz). Chris Carmack is the ex-boyfriend of the female lead, still uncast, who was scarred in a boating accident. Joel David Moore is providing the comic relief as a socially-awkward guy who fancies himself a young Brad Pitt.

Written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, the story revolves around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana’s Gulf area. When their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.

>> The Pacific’s Rami Malek Joins The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn

Entertainment Tonight reports that actor Rami Malek has been cast in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.

Rami Malek will portray Benjamin, a member of an Egyptian vampire coven who has the ability to control the elements air, water, fire and earth. In the Breaking Dawn book, the coven travels to Forks, Washington to help out the Cullen clan in their battle with the Volturi.

Malek is a cast member on the Tom Hanks mini-series The Pacific, but may be known to many as Ahkmenrah from the Night at the Museum series. The actor told Entertainment Tonight that he will next appear in Tom Hanks’ new movie, Larry Crowne, as well.

>> Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti Join Farragut North

George Clooney’s new directorial effort is starting to come together as Vulture is reporting that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti have signed on for the film, Farragut North.

Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Paul Zara, Myers’ boss on the campaign trail and Paul Giamatti will play the rival campaign manager of the opposing candidate.

Clooney will direct from a script by Beau Willimon, who adapted his own off-Broadway play for the silver screen. It was said that Clooney wants to start shooting the movie as early as February. The film and play are based off Willimon’s experiences working on the 2004 Howard Dean Presidential campaign. The story is set in Des Moines, Iowa, just before the Iowa Democratic caucus, and revolves around Stephen Myers, a political animal who plays dirty to get his candidate a nomination. The site reports that Clooney will offer the Myers role to Chris Pine, since Leonardo DiCaprio has apparently dropped out of the film. Chris Pine had recently played the same part on stage last year in Los Angeles.

>> Dwayne Johnson Will Join The Cast of Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Heat Vision is reporting that Dwayne Johnson will play the boyfriend of Josh Hutcherson’s mom in the sequel to the Brendan Fraser adventure, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. Hutcherson will reprise his role as young explorer Sean Anderson, who is forced to bring his mom on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather. The script is loosely based on Jules Verne’s “The Mysterious Island.”

Three other characters will be introduced in the movie and cast during the next few weeks.

In 2008′s Journey to the Center of the Earth, Brendan Fraser played scientist Trevor Anderson, who was an uncle of Josh Hutcherson’s character. Fraser is not returning, after hitting an impasse over start dates. The film’s other co-star, Anita Briem, is not slated to return either.
