TV News: CHIPS Television Reboot In the Works?

When I was at SDCC this year walking down the street, I saw Erik Estrada, and said to myself, “Man, why have they not done a CHIPs reboot?” Not that we really feel the world needs that to happen. However, it seems that the classic 1977 TV series is the latest classic TV series to receive the reboot treatment, according to Deadline TV. The site reports that actor Topher Grace will be executive producing the new series, along with Numb3rs creators Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Heuton. Hawaii Five-O is getting its reboot debut this fall on CBS while Rockford Files is getting one on NBC. So it makes sense this cop show would be talked about.

It was said that the new series had not been shopped to any networks as of yet, but with the buzz surrounding those aforementioned shows, it is likely this project could spark some interest. I see CBS jumping on it with the Numb3rs producer involved.

The original CHiPs series starred Larry Wilcox as Jon Baker and Erik Estrada as Francis “Ponch” Poncherello, two motorcycle officers with the California Highway Patrol.

There is supposedly a feature film version of CHiPs  in development at Warner Bros., with Wilmer Valderrama attached to star. This was reported back in 2005 via Yahoo! Movie news. It’s unknown at this point if that project is still in the works or if Vallderama is now in cohootz with his former That 70s Show co-star Grace on this new TV version.
