Is Jonah Nolan Edging Closer to Super Deal To Direct The Man of Steel

Rumors have been circulating for awhile that Chris Nolan’s little bro and writer extraordinaire is a still the man set to helm the reboot of Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment’s Superman. Jonah Nolan is a prolific, acclaimed writer behind the camera but now with his brother Chris Nolan’s recent godfather role for Superman, its seems he may want to keep directorial duties in the family.

Moviehole claim that their source has confirmed that Jonathan Nolan is indeed close to signing on to direct Man Of Steel, but that the actor they have in mind is not Chuck‘s Zach Levi as previously rumored.

Clint Morris over at Moviehole has spent a bit of time trying to verify the rumors ran by Geektyrant about Christopher Nolan’s bro Jonathan helming the upcoming Superman project.

Read the quotes below on the story:

“You know, some of that is true”, my very reliable* contact, said .”Jonathan Nolan is not onboard yet, but it looks like he will get the job. Jonah wants to direct, Chris wants to land him that gig, WB doesn’t want to upset Chris. That said, it is far from a done deal — but with Chris and Emma producing, the odds are with Jonah”

“Also, it is a TV star that they’re looking at for the lead – but, despite what that article says, I don’t believe anyone has actually tested.” (He/She has heard nothing of Zachary Levi being considered)…Sorry? What? Oh, you want to know which “TV star” is currently atop of the WB wishlist?
Says our insider, “[He's a] popular TV actor that no one is thinking of, but everyone will be thrilled with if he pulls on the blue tights”

I love both Nolans but I do not like the change up. Chris is a director and Jonah is a writer thats what they are good at and while Chris can write as well he has more than earned his stripes for directing anything he wants. Superman is a big property and i just can’t see a newbie/virgin director coming into helm it but if the godfather wants it then he’ll get it because like the quote says above the WB wants to not piss off Nolan and thats a smart move. I have to assume the compromise will be Chris holding his brother’s hand along the way.

A first time director isn't ideal, but it is far more realistic than most names thrown about by fans. I think WB is taking aim at Spider-Man's $80 million budget and wants to avoid another Singer situation where the director blows the budget sky high and does whatever he wants. So a manageable, cheap director it is.

I hope the TV star mentioned is Tom Welling at long last. Do the right thing, WB. Frankly, I'm sick of the chicken-chested scrawny actors that fanboys put on their wishlist. If the actor doesn't look like he could handle himself in a fist fight then I don't want him.

I love smallville but i am not sold on Tom Welling just yet. I will say that he has the physical properties for sure and you are dead on with the look of Supes not being talked about right with fanboys. Personally I really like Jon Hamm in the role or even Adam Baldwin not sure on what age they want Supes to look like yet. and if this movie's going to pick us up in the beginning form (origin) or middle form (things are already in place as common knowledge).

Jonathan Nolan is his name. ;)

Kevin Coll, Tom’s proved he has the most potential and experience for the character and he’s proven he’s worthy for the role and Vivian, I agree, he has earned the right to be given a chance on the big screen and deserves more credit than what some people have given him. If Nolan is to be involved in the rebooted Superman movie, he should I’m not just saying that because I’m a Smallville fanboy but as a Superman fan. Even Welling himself admitted he’s always been open to the idea.
But yeah, WB, please do the right thing.
