Bruce Campbell Burn Notice Prequel Film In the Works?
Well sucks I missed this panel at SDCC 2010 but apparently straight from the panel it was announced that a USA Network executive declared that USA will be producing a Burn Notice prequel movie starring Bruce Campbell. The movie will tell Sam Axe’s story, the role played by Campbell, including why he ended up retiring to Miami.
Series creator Matt Nix confirmed the breaking news from the panel by saying, “An hour ago we weren’t sure we were going to say anything!” Jokingly at the panel Bruce Campbell took his wallet out and offered Nix money to fund the movie, so did series director, Tim Matheson who then said “you have a director yet?”
Sounds pretty cool! Burn Notice is arguably one the best shows on television as it hits on all demos well and it shows in the numbers as one the most successful non-primetime series to date. The series, if you haven’t seen it, revolves around Michael Westen, a covert spy, who mistakenly becomes “burned” – ousted from the spy community – with no money, no assets he ends up in his hometown of Miami and there he must rely on his only friends – Sam and Fiona – to find out who was behind his burn notice and get back to the job he loves. Oh yeah, his mother is there too. A perfect blend of MacGyver meets A-Team I love Burn Notice and welcome a prequel series around Bruce Campbell as he was one of the major reasons I started watching the show in the first place.
We are still waiting on information on the project such as if it will air on TV or if it will be a straight -to-dvd or even bigger, a theatrical release. Also there is the question of who will fund the project – USA and NBC Universal or Fox Entertainment (who distributes the dvd) or some collaboration with both of them.
Can’t wait to hear more about this and we shall keep you posted.
Are you interested in a Sam Axe story as a full film?
