Check Out The New A-Team Van! Its The Fifth Character And Perhaps Most Iconic!
Much has been said about the new A-team movie and it recapturing one of the classic shows from the 80s. Say what you want about Liam Neeson sporting white Peppard type hair, Sharlto Copely’s little too eccentric Murdock and the insane action scene of a falling tank with the heroes in it while they shoot down a plane.
If there is one thing they got right in this new film its the iconic fifth figure, the van. The team’s primary mode of transportation in the new film is exactly the same as it is in the original series.
The black and metallic grey GMC Vandura G15 van used by the A-Team in the original series, with its characteristic red stripe, black and red turbine mag wheels, and rooftop spoiler, has become one the most enduring of pop culture vehicle icons. One of the original six vans used for the show is even displayed in the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum in Keswick, northern England. In the TV series the van went through numerous accidents, gun battles, insane jumps, was stripped apart and abused in just about every imaginable way – only to be put back together by B.A. The gun storage case contained Ruger AC556 fully automatic rifle, with folding stock and flash hider firing 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.
In the upcoming 2010 film from 20th Century Fox, will feature an updated model, the GMC Vandura G20, and was just recently on display at the 2010 New York International Auto Show as well as my local Memphis 2010 DUBS Auto Show. There were two vans used in the film and the one on touring display from Fox is the “hero” van you see in all the production shots of the film as well as flying through the air and stuff. In film, just like the series, the van will belong to master mechanic B.A. Baracus and will be their official mode of transportation. In the video below you can see all the trimmings honoring the original series’ van including the gun storage cases in the back.
We shall see if this new van will one day make the Cars of the Stars Motor Museum but it is certainly an ode to original and you can see a video of the new van below as well as pictures from the event.
The A-team will be released in theaters June 11, 2010 from 20th Century Fox and stars Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copely as titular four member team. Like the original series it follows a team of wrongfully convicted commandos that escape a maximum security prison and become soldiers of fortune. Other cast members include Jessica Biel, Patrick Wilson and Brian Bloom. The movie was directed by Joe Carnahan.
