Zoolander Sequel To Be Set 10 Years In The Future
Last week it was reported that a sequel to the 2001 film Zoolander was moving forward with Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux co-writing the script with Theroux set to direct. MTV Movies Blog has just spoken with Stiller, who confirmed that Zoolander 2 will be happening. He offered some new details on the film. Here’s an excerpt from the site’s article:
“Yes, it is true,” Stiller confirmed of the sequel plans. “We are in the process of getting a script written. It’s in the early stages, but it’s gonna happen. We’ve been trying for years to… figure it out. It’ll have input from all the… Zoolander people. It’s just… taken awhile.”
Stiller also revealed that his Derek Zoolander and Owen Wilson’s Hansel will have to fight their way back atop the fashion world.
“We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we’re going to try to go forward,” he said. “The beginning of the movie is [set]… 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves.”
“Since this is a story about the world of fashion, whatever’s written will have to reflect how people who have been out of the loop would return to an industry that changes seasonally after 10 years. “Well I think it has to be [a Zoolander for a new generation],” Stiller explained. “The fashion world, you know, you go away for a year and its changed. It just happens so quickly.”
I was glad to hear they are making a sequel to this movie because it secures hope that we may get an Anchorman sequel and possibly Old School. I hated Zoolander the first 10 times I saw it but having seen it in different stages in my life with different tastes and find it very funny. I wonder if the sequel will be funny though? many times they are hit or miss most of the time miss.
