Guy Ritchie To Develop Warren Ellis’ Excalibur Project
Not to be confused with the Bryan Singer remake of the John Boorman 1981 film, Excalibur this film which has Guy Ritchie attached is being titled the same name as of now is based off a screenplay from profound writer Warren Ellis.
We reported the story back in July of last year and unlike the Singer project, which was said to be a straight-up remake, this film plans to be a much different take on the material. Here’s an excerpt from the site.
While Singer’s version is closer to a remake of the Boorman film, Ritchie’s possible take is more in the tone of Star Wars, and, as Ellis noted last year, his version “differs from the prior 751 King Arthur movies in many ways, but perhaps most obviously in that it is very specifically about the gathering of the Knights.”
It seems that the since both projects are set up at Warners this version of Arthur is going to be fast tracked with Ritchie attached since Singer’s project has no writer attached yet and he completely swamped with X-Men: The First Class, a Battlestar Galactica film and Jack the Giant Killer. I really like the Star Wars idea of Excalibur where Arthur is like Luke and the Knights are Jedi and Merlin is very Obi-wan type with Mordred presumably as Darth Vader.
