Christopher Nolan To Consult on New Superman Direction for Warner Brothers?
What can only be described as one of the most interesting stories of 2010, it seems Warner Brothers, gold standard director, Chris Nolan may be consulting with the studio on the direction of the next installment of Superman. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that Warner Bros. has brought on Christopher Nolan as a “mentor” a new Superman film.
It was cited that Nolan’s “super” strong ties to the studio, where he is considered the man with the golden touch, were among the top reasons they brought him on board. The article says they are keen on Nolan to, “ensure The Man Of Steel gets off the ground after a 3 1/2-year hiatus.”
The site also reported that this new film would not be a sequel to the 2006 film Superman Returns and will be a brand new take on the character. However, it was said that both Superman Returns director Bryan Singer and star Brandon Routh were not totally out of the running concerning the reboot. Finke reports that her insider says, “We know what we don’t want to do. But we don’t know what we want to do. We learned a lot from the last movie, and we want to get it right this time.”
Currently Nolan is completing Inception but the article reports that he is prepping a third Batman film or at least “hatched a story…”he’s also hatched an idea for Warner Bros’ third Batman installment. Now his brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan “Jonah” Nolan, and David Goyer who co-wrote Batman Begins and penned the story for The Dark Knight, are off scripting it.”
I am glad Warner Brothers is at least using their most valuable resource to try and come up with the best Superman reboot possible. I do not think Nolan will direct, maybe produce, but I am glad he sees the potential and is willing to “consult” on making sure the direction is worth while. I am also interested to see if Singer does comeback. I doubt it with his commitments ranging from X-Men: First Class to Battlestar Galactica. I think Nolan would agree with me (I hope) if you are going to reboot you must first eliminate ties with anyone who has been involved with previous version. That means get rid of Brandon Routh, Singer, John Peters and anyone involved with previous versions. Bring in new creative folks and go from there.
Do you think Nolan being involved in Superman’s direction is good? Do You think Singer/Routh should still be involved in some capacity?
Thoughts?
