Warner Brothers Still Wants Jackie Earle Haley for Sinestro in The Green Lantern

Jackie Earle Haley Could Be Sinestro In WB/DC's The Green Lantern

Back in October we reported that Jackie Earle Haley was possibly going to play Sinestro in Martin Campbell’s The Green Lantern, though it was later revealed Haley hadn’t even heard of the part at the time.

Now HitFix is reporting that Haley is the front-runner to play one of the main Green Lantern series characters Sinestro.

“And I’m hearing that based on the relationship they have with him from Watchmen and A Nightmare On Elm Street, Jackie Earle Haley is the only choice for Sinestro by the studio.”

The site also went on to say that Sinestro might not have a huge part in this film, but will set up future sequels where he will surely have a bigger role.

This is in fact true based on the first draft of the script that I read. Sinestro’s role is limited to that of a mentor to Hal Jordan as he learns how to be a Lantern. The script does not, however, have Sinestro’s later fate revealed, which those who follow the comics know what that is.

It was also mentioned in the article that it wasn’t clear at what stage of negotiations Haley is in for the role, but the site was confident enough to say, “I am willing to say that Haley is the guy.”

I am not opposed to his casting though I have always imagined Hugo Weaving for the role.
