[Update] Bond 23 Maybe Put On Hold Longer Until MGM Sorts Out Financing Issues

Update 1/5/2010 – Editor’s Note

My MGM contact sent me an email about this interview and article that we aggregated from Mi6.co.uk and assured us that the film will not be delayed and that scripting is still underway, everything is going as planned with Bond 23. What my contact also reiterated to me was that the rights will not shift or change. MGM and EON Productions will retain rights and finance Bond 23. We will surely let you all know more on the project once we hear it, right now we just have to go on what we are told by the studio and this is what they say officially.

Thanks! (Kevin C. – Executive Editor – FusedFilm.com)

When the Bond reimagining of Casino Royale came out its sequel Quantum of Solace only took 2 years to develop and distribute. Since 2008, 2 years has almost passed and a 23rd film and third Daniel Craig, Bond feature has yet to be made.

Currently all we know is that a script is being made with Peter Morgan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade and that development would be pushed back until February 2010.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli gave a brief update to Total Film magazine (via Mi6.co.uk) in the UK (February issue). Asked what the current status of the project is, Wilson said:

“Well, our timeline’s a little up in the air what with the situation at MGM, so we have to be flexible. We just don’t know enough about the situation to comment, but we know it’s uncertain.”

It was rumored sometime ago that Fox may take over rights of the famous franchise from MGM but our MGM contact told us that wasn’t true. Wilson was coy about the direction the third Craig film would take saying “I think we’re at the stage where a lot of ideas are floating around that sound very good, but whether they make the final cut, who knows?”

It will be interesting to see what delays the franchise over the course of the next month or so. The site tells us that MGM expects the first takeover bids to be submitted within the next few weeks.

I really hope the money thing gets sorted out as I am a major Bond fan and I can’t wait to see the next film in theaters. Though Quantum was lame compared to Casino, it wasn’t bad and left themselves wide open for a lot of things to do for the next sequel.
