Snow Queen to Be Next Disney Hand-Drawn Film

Brendon Connelly over at SlashFilm (via FS.Net)- got a small update on another new hand-drawn Disney project called The Snow Queen. It’s apparently an old project that fell apart a few years back and has been dusted off again recently.

AS many of you know The Princess and the Frog is part of a new mantra from the folks at Disney to release a hand-drawn animated film every 2 year keeping in with the tradition and work that built Disney to where it is today.

The Princess and the Frog is already out in theaters and is set to expand nationwide this weekend. I have not seen it yet but have heard the critics love it. What’s even cooler is the musical mastermind behind the score and songs of Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid – Alan Menken is already scoring the project.

Slashfilm managed to get a piece of concept art from Harald Sieperman, a concept artist working on the last iteration.

Presumably this film will revolve around the tale of the Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson, who also wrote The Little Mermaid. It centers on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by a little boy and girl, Kai and Gerda. The story is one of Andersen’s longest and is considered by scholars, critics, and readers alike as one of his best. In the DC Comic series from Bill Willingham, Fables, which will be getting a TV adaptation on ABC (owned by Disney) soon features Kai and the Snow Queen.
