Rumor Has Peter Jackson Developing Mortal Engines

MortalEngines

Word has it that the prolific Peter Jackson has yet another new project on the table—an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s Mortal Engines Quartet.

The story comes to us from The Dominion Post, a New Zealand newspaper. However, while a handful of sources are picking up the story, it’s important to note that this is still just a rumor. Jackson has yet to confirm.

The Mortal Engines series should provide Jackson with the opportunity to deliver plenty of groundbreaking visuals that could rival the remarkable universe of James Cameron’s Avatar.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Reeve creates an Earth plagued by geological devastation. To survive, cities have evolved into mobile monstrosities built on massive wheels and caterpillar tracks.

These cities roam the land like animals preying on smaller cities, which they devour in order to obtain necessary resources. Reeve calls it Municipal Darwinism.

Personally, I think this is an amazing concept and wish we had a little of that in real life. How awesome would it be to see New York and Boston finally go at it, winner-take-all?

Hopefully, Jackson confirms this story and this becomes more than just another rumor on the web.
