Another Sci-Fi Remake with The Black Hole
There are a lot of sci-fi movies getting remade including one my favorite films that really changed modern sci-fi, Forbidden Planet.
Now Disney’s The Black Hole, another personal favorite of mine is getting remade and Tron Legacy duo are the ones who are going develop the remake from the 1979 film.
Joseph Kosinski and Sean Bailey have teamed up with writer Travis Beacham for the reinvention of The Black Hole, a 1979 Disney sci-fi film that held the record for most expensive Disney movie at the time of its making.
The original film followed a group of space explorers aboard the USS Palomino who come across a lost ship, the USS Cygnus, hovering outside a black hole. Inside the Cygnus, the explorers meet a scientist, commanding an army of faceless robots, who explains his crew deserted him as he planned to go through the black hole. The explorers soon discover that the robots are the remnants of the former crew and that the scientist has no intention of letting them leave.
THR’s Heat Vision Blog, is reports the details of the new film are being kept under wraps, however the new film will ground the story in the science of a black hole much more than the original. The scientist, Maximilian, is also set to return.
Black Hole is sci-fi 101 at its core. This movie is the predecessor to films and books like Sphere, The Abyss and movies like Event Horizon. Every sci-fi show since, like Stargate and Star Trek:TNG have taken cues from this film.
