Hasbro’s Ouija Spells Writers!

As many of you know I have continually been impressed with Hasbro’s brand extension into Hollywood and the constant round of projects based on their popular toy and board games. I know it sounds lame a movie based on Battleship or Ouija or even Candyland but think about the possibilities. “Whether a certain toy or game might make a great movie is better determined by “creative stewards” such as Peter Berg (directing Battleship) or Ethan Cohen (writing Candyland) or even Gore Verbinski (directing Clue) than by the studio suits. As a result, there’s a real enthusiasm and excitement to work with these brands and that is why they are securing topline talent.

I think too its the endless ways you can tell the story incorporating the brands into the film. Ouija is no exception as Michael Bay will produce and now we know the Tron Legacy writers are going to be scripting the film.

Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Universal has signed on Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to write the big screen adaptation of classic popular board game which has has been mass-produced by Hasbro’s Parker Brothers since 1966, with millions being sold worldwide.

The studio is looking at the project as a supernatural action-adventure movie. It is possible that the “certain rules” of the game – never use it alone, never use it in a graveyard, always say good-bye – figure into the plot some how. I mean how could it not? that alone sets for a good premise leaving it open for anything to happen.
