Brian Cox Could Be Eyeing A Role in The Hobbit

So many names have bee attached to the Hobbit usually pertaining to the lead role and who will portray young Bilbo Baggins. We have also heard that Viggo Mortensen was interested in playing Aragorn. Now we have heard that character actor Brian Cox is eyeing a role in the next film.

Ain’t It Cool News,is reporting that Cox is rumored to be a major contender to play a dwarf in Guillermo del Toro’s big screen version of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The story says that the producers are currently casting these roles and that Cox is at the top of the list. There is no other information aside from that.

Based on the style of the Dwarfs and how Gimli was portrayed by John Rys Davies the casting of a Brian Cox would certainly fit. It will be interesting to see what Dwarf he plays if he is casted. There are 13 dwarves that accompany Gandalf and Bilbo on the journey to the Lonely Mountains.

The head dwarf is Thorin Oakenshield, proud, pompous head of the company of dwarves and heir to a dwarven kingdom under the Lonely Mountain. Thorin makes many mistakes in his leadership, relying on Gandalf or Bilbo to get him out of trouble, but he proves himself a mighty warrior.
