Will Jackie Earle Haley Play Sinestro in The Green Lantern?
Aint It Cool News is reporting over the weekend that Jackie Earle Haley, is set to join the cast of the DC Comics adaptation The Green Lantern, already starring Ryan Reynolds. According to their source, he is set to play the villian Sinestro. But take the news lightly, because as of now, this is just a rumor. AICN is also reporting that Martin Campbell is currently finalizing the rest of the cast for The Green Lantern.
It is also being reported that Superman will be making a cameo in the film, which we know because we have read the first draft of the script (review to be up this week). The cameo is merely the ring passing through multiple people before it picks Hal Jordan. The cameo shows Clark Kent at the Daily Planet and the ring blows by the window. The Green Lantern is set for a June 17th, 2011 release date.
In an update Collider spoke with Haley on the red carpet of the 2009 Scream awards last night and the he revealed that he is not involved with the film, at this point.
“You guys are out in front of it and I don’t know anything about it yet. If something comes up I’ll let you know,” Haley told the site.
While he said that he hadn’t screen tested for the part and the first he heard of the role was walking on the red carpet that night, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t sign on to the film. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with any news regarding The Green Lantern as soon as more information comes in.
Many fans have been screaming for Hugo Weaving to nab the role and I can’t say disagree he wouldn’t be perfect but lots of fans wanted Nathan Fillion and that didn’t happen so the casting for Lantern will continue to surprise. Haley isn’t a bad way to go though just not expected if becomes confirmed.
