TV News: First Look at Julian Sands as Jor-El in Smallville! Could Series Return for Season 10?

ComicsContinuum has an image gallery that previews actor Julian Sands portraying Superman’s scientist father Jor-El in traditional Kyrptonian threads, plus an episode synopsis from The CW. While it was originally believed that Sands would star in a flashback of some kind, it looks like his character could be entering mainstream continuity. Sands has become a genre actor and like Michael Shanks is from the SG universe and now crossing over into Smallville. Alaina Huffman has done the vice-versa playing the Black Canary and is now the medic on SGU.

Besides the cool pics of Sands it seems that we might have another season to look forward to. Entertainment Weekly’s Ausiello Files recently spoke with Smallville executive producer Kelly Souders who revealed that they are “pushing” for a 10th season.”We are really, really pushing for season 10,” Souders told the site. “We really hope it happens.” While Smallville’s ratings have declined since moving to Friday nights this season, it seems that the numbers drop has not been as bad as what was originally projected and Souders even thinks the numbers can increase as they progress.

“I think the word still isn’t out there that we’re on Friday nights. So if people keep tuning in and telling their friends about it, I think [a 10th season] is quite likely.”

Souders was also asked if fans would ever get to see series star Tom Welling don the iconic Superman costume in the series, which was met with an interesting response.

“We think Smallville from the get-go was about how a young man turns into Superman. And it’s really about the journey getting there. I can’t make any promises, but if it was ever going to happen, it would be at the very end.”

Well that certainly sounds better than the stupid excuses Millar and Gough made about the Superman costume.
