TV News: Bradley Whitford to Star in Burn Notice Creator Matt Nix’s Jack and Dan
Bradley Whitford has been tapped to star in Jack and Dan, Matt Nix’s new 13-episode series for Fox. The show was created by the Burn Notice creator. It centers on Jack, an ambitious, by-the-book cop who is partnered with Dan (Bradley Whitford), a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act from years before.
Whitford made a name for himself on TV as Josh Lyman in the acclaimed Aaron Sorkin Presidental drama, The West Wing. He has not had much luck post-Wing with Studio 60 getting cancelled after one season and no pick-up of the NBC half-hour pilot Off Duty from this past development season.
The straight-to-series hourlong project is being produced by Fox TV Studios under the company’s international co-production model. The show is pegged as an action comedy in the tone of Nix’s USA Network hit Burn Notice, and it is slated to begin early next year.
Whitford will next be seen in Joss Whedon’s The Cabin in the Woods.
Burn Notice is one of my favorite series on TV right now with its “A-Team meets MacGyver” vibe combined with a sleek sexy setting of Miami, its literally a perfect show and need I mention Bruce Campbell is in it. That being said, Nix is a good creator and I am very interested in this new series – Jack and Dan. I am not a fan of procedural dramas like CSI or Law and Order but I love shows like Bones and Castle because they blend humor in well and make it fun, not taking themselves too seriously. A nice fun “Buddy Cop” show could be funny and a change of pace to what is on other networks. I like the premise of Whitford playing a John McClane, “Die Hard with a Vengeance” type style, half drunk and a major wild-card. It will be interesting to see him in a action role though.
