Tarantino to Direct Western or Gangster Movie Post Basterds

Variety had a very brief update from Quentin Tarantino straight from the Morelia Film Festival in Mexico, where he says there’s more than just a Kill Bill 3 in the works, something that was rumored last week.

There to promote “Inglourious Basterds” — the festival opener — the filmmaker said he wanted to give Uma Thurman’s central character and her daughter Beebe 10 years of peace before the next bloody installment, which would push the project to 2014.

In a conference alongside “Basterds” star Eli Roth, Tarantino said that there would be one film in between, saying he was “wide open” to his next project. Tarantino added that he would like to do a “re-imagining” of a number of genres including a Western or a 1920s to ’30s “Pretty Boy Floyd” type gangster movie.

I am pretty much up for Tarantino directing anything unless he decides to direct Spy kids like his buddy Rodriguez. That being said, either a Western or Gangster film or both sounds good to me. I’d prefer the Western first as a gangster film would still feel a little like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs, but even so the Tarantino dialog in the 1930s sounds awesome to me. I will say to that we just saw Public Enemies so a Western seems like something more because we do not see them that much.

Anyway what do you see a Tarantino Western being like?

A Tarantino Western would be a mishmash of Howard Hawks and spaghetti westerns.
