Rashida Jones’ Comic Book Optioned for a Movie
Continuing the two trends of comic book properties being optioned for film AND the trend of actors writing comics, Rashida Jones’ upcoming comic, Frenemy of the State, has been optioned as a film for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. Surprisingly enough, the first issue of the comic hasn’t even been released yet. The comic and the film will chronicle the adventures of a young heiress who works for the CIA. Jones will cowrite the screenplay with actor Will McCormack, but does not plan to star in the film. She envisions the title character as a younger woman in her 20s.
I am curious about the comic and the film. I think the whole idea of a debutante/heiress turned butt-kicking spy girl could be interesting and witty with the right cast and a good script.
