No JJ Abrams for Mission Impossible IV! He Will Only Produce!

It seems that the director of Tom Cruise’s last mission won’t helm his next one. We had known for sometime that JJ Abrams was going to produce the next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. According to MTV, Abrams won’t likely be on board to direct the film though.

“I’m producing with Tom,” he said recently. “My guess is, given other things, that I will not be directing the movie.”

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are currently writing the script. Meanwhile Abrams was also asked of the rumors that a younger actor might step into star, but he of course didn’t reveal too much.

“I don’t want to give anything away yet, but I will say that it’s a story that will feel consistent with the world that has been created,” he explained. “It’s not a reboot kind of thing.”

Abrams directed Mission: Impossible III, but with Star Trek 2 waiting in the wings and a top priority by Paramount with Abrams slated to direct, along with a slew of other projects, the news doesn’t come as too big a surprise to us.
