New Vacation Sequel In the Works?

I was literally talking about this with my buddy the other day right down to the premise of the film. I thought how cool would it be to bring back the Griswold family with an older Chevy Chase, who is re-surging popularity with his small role from Chuck as well as his new role on Community.

My idea was to simply bring Clark back as a Grandfather and Russ has kids and the whole family is there for wacky hijinks and lots of fun. You could even have Ethan Embry reprise the role of Russ from Vegas Vacation. Even Johnny Galecki who is now Leonard on the hit series The Big Bang Theory could reprise his role as Russ from Christmas Vacation.

Anyway the story is that Warner Bros. division New Line is working on a sequel to the 1983 comedy classic Vacation and has attached David Dobkin to produce and possibly direct, according Heat Vision Blog from THR.

In the original road trip comedy that spawned many sequels including European Vacation (1985), the most popular Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997). New Line is meeting with writers, but a rough idea for the story has already been worked: the new feature will focus on Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold, who takes his own family on a road trip vacation. It is possible that Chase and D’Angelo will make appearances as grandparents.

Anyway I feel like my conversation was being listened too via the Patriot Act or something and some studio is now wiring my house to steal movie ideas from me. Okay paranoia aside this sequel is a long time coming but almost the perfect time for it. I’d actually sort of like to see someone like a Ben Stiller play Rusty, wouldn’t that be cool to have him and Chase together but Embry or Galecki would still be fine.

A new writing team has written a prequel to the Vacation series titled, “Honeymoon”. From what I hear the story line follows Clark and Ellen from engagement, to wedding, and honeymoon mixed in with a present day story line of Audrey (Juliette Lewis) getting married in Los Angeles. Sounds like a great way to work in the old cast plus introduce the “next generation” Clark Griswald. Thoughts??

this morning saw the news: before the movie comes out a vacation rental company, HomeAway, is going to bring back the Griswolds in a new ad campaign – lets wait and see what that means :-) here where I saw it:
