Matt Damon and Josh Brolin Circle Coen’s True Grit Adaptation
The upcoming new adaptation of True Grit by Joel and Ethan Coen might have found its two lead actors.
Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to star in the film. Damon would star as the lawman who teams up with U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn (article confirms hes being played by Jeff Bridges) and a 14-year-old girl to help find her father’s killer in Indian territory. Brolin would play the killer.
It was said that production would start next March and the film is eyeing a late 2010 release. The Coens are teaming with producer Scott Rudin, No Country for Old Men for the makeover which is said it will focus on the point-of-view of the 14 year old heroine of the novel, rather than the U.S. Marshal (originally played by Wayne). The Marshal helps the young girl search for her father’s killer in Charles Portis’ novel.
Matt Damon just wrapped the Clint Eastwood-directed Invictus and is shooting the George Nolfi-directed The Adjustment Bureau. He’s also set to re-team with Eastwood in “Hereafter.” Brolin is shooting the Oliver Stone-directed Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, and then will star in the Asger Leth-directed drama Cartel.
