Jude Law and Robert DeNiro To Join Cast of Marvel’s Thor
According to Ain’t It Cool News, it seems that actor Matthias Schweighöfer told the German edition of Gentlemen’s Quarterly that he is going to have a role in Kenneth Branagh’s soon to be made Marvel Thor film. Then the actor said that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro are also attached to the project. There isn’t any word yet on what roles any of those actors will have in the film but we can always guess.
Ever hear of the Warrior’s Three?
The Warriors Three is a group of fictional characters who served as supporting cast members in the Thor comics. They are made up of Asgardians Fandral, Hogun & Volstagg. Though the characters are gods of Asgard, they are original creations of the comics and not based on characters from Norse mythology.
I’d like to see Law as Fandral one of the Warrior’s Three in the Thor Universe. Fandral is the most dashing of the three and has somewhat of a Errol Flynn look to him that Jude Law would be perfect for (he even played Errol Flynn in The Aviator). Fandral is a warrior of Asgard and an adventurer. He is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions. Though Schweighöfer could also fit that bill as well. Other more likely casting for Law would Baldar, an Asgard warrior and another half-brother to Thor.
I would assume DeNiro would play one of the other Warrior’s Three too, most likely Hogun the Grimm. He is characterized as brusque, taciturn, and often short-tempered demeanor. He is the brooding pessimist of the group, as opposed to Volstagg’s (the third of the Warrior’s Three) irrepressible good humor and Fandral’s brash heroism. He is a fierce and unrelenting warrior, a collector of weaponry and often the voice of reason for the Warriors Three.
Other cast members rumored to this point is Stellan Skarsgard, who is being pegged as playing Odin but maybe he could be one of the Warrior’s Three and DeNiro is Odin. Time will tell on that one but I believe that Law is 100% going to be Fandral (speculating - not official) he just seems perfect for that role.
Still, I wouldn’t bet against the possibility of this story panning out false as Law is “a self-described comic book fan” and DeNiro has a “working history with Branagh.” Hey they could all be the Warrior’s Three now that I think about it more and more.
