First Trailer for Edge of Darkness Surfaces! New Mel Gibson Thriller!
We now have our first look at Edge of Darkness, the new detective thriller, starring Mel Gibson and directed by Martin Campbell. The film co-stars Ray Winstone, who took over a role that originally casted Robert DeNiro, but he left the project due to creative differences.
The film will revolves around Gibson’s character, a straight arrow homicide detective named Thomas Craven. When his daughter is murdered on the front steps of his home, he believes the hit was meant for him. Craven’s investigation leads a path to his daughter’s secret life, a corporate cover-up, and the government’s own shaded dealings. Winstone plays an operative sent in to clean up the mess. Danny Huston takes on the role of a shady businessman while Shawn Roberts will play the role of the daughter’s distraught boyfriend.
The film is a remake of a BBC mini-series from the 1980s that starred Bob Peck. I like what I see Gibson hasn’t done much lately, in fact this is his first starring role since 2002′s Signs, so its nice to see his return to the screen in the roles that make him good, an angry, over protective, conspiratorial, freaked out, pissed off dad.
Edge of Darkness centers on a veteran cop whose only grown-up child is murdered on the steps of his home. The cop unearths his daughter’s secret life and discovers a world of corporate cover-ups and government collusion.
