Dreamworks Gets Wicked!

No they are not developing the highly acclaimed Broadway musical but rather a series of books. Hollywood has always had a love affair with the supernatural and even more so now with films like Twilight, Harry Potter and everything in between (Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant) making the box office cash. Now Dreamworks, who are on their own, are set to develop a series of books called Wicked into feature films.

DreamWorks has picked up a pitch from sibling writers Aaron and Matthew Benay based on the five-book series Wicked, written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story is described by a person involved with the project as ”Twilight meets Wanted” with witchcraft, and follows the struggle of Holly Cathers, who moves in with an aunt after her parents die and becomes drawn into a dark world of secrets and magic.

Sounds interesting as I love Wanted but Twilight I am kinda iffy on. These supernatural “fish out of water” stories are very common where you have these secret worlds hidden from our own reality. J.K,. Rowling is credited the most for bringing that into the mainstream with her Harry Potter books and now films that are so popular.

I do not know how popular this Wicked series is but with a studio marketing arm behind a new film series you can bet the hype from the book fans will come soon enough.

EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!! This movie will suck just like Twilight, New Moon, Cirque Du Freak, and the tv shows The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. Hollywood needs to come up with their own ideas instead of taking the ideas of other because they epic fail.

I don't know why people keep describing this as twilight. It has nothing to do with twilight, and it's 50x better.
Depending on who they get to direct and who they pick for the cast, the movie's either gonna be a big bust, or it might just be another hit movie.
