Carl Ellsworth to Rework Paramount’s C.O.D. (Cash On Delivery) Script
Paramount Pictures has brought in Carl Ellsworth to rework the action-thriller screenplay C.O.D. (Cash on Delivery). DreamWorks picked up Lars Jacobson’s original script back in March 2008 for mid-six figures where Paramount held onto it after DreamWorks moved out on its own.
The C.O.D. story line follows a New York City bike messenger who is forced to deliver three bombs under threat of his family receiving one. He must avoid capture by not only the authorities but also by an entire nation looking to stop him.
Sounds like a pretty badass idea. I mean there have been similar plots where a “normal joe” is put in an extraordinary situation, movies like Nick of Time forced a man to assassinate a presidential candidate or they (the bad guys) would kill his daughter. Phone Booth, forced a man to reconcile all his bad deals and screwing people as a sniper threatened to blow his head off and kill others too. Eagle Eye was one of the most recent ones where a young man and woman are coerced into a govermental collapse plan from a mysterious voice tracking their every move.
I stress, the idea has been done before, but what I like about this premise is the bomb aspect, that is a little different. How it will all come together will be interesting, they have to be careful from becoming too unbelievable. Ellsworth’s most recent script in development was the remake of Red Dawn which he co-wrote with Jeremy Passmore. Ellsworth is also adapting Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man comic. Past films he wrote include Red Eye, Disturbia and Last House on the Left.
