Bryan Singer Still Eyeing X-Men Return?
About a month ago we posted a rumor that Bryan Singer was looking to make another X-Men movie with Twentieth Century Fox. Since then the director has put his name on a film reboot of Battlestar Galactica amongst other things, an Excalibur reboot as well but it seems Singer is still itching a return to the X-Men universe.
Singer made X-Men and X2: X-Men United, but passed on the third installment so he could make Superman Returns. The most recent X-men outing, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was directed by South African filmmaker Gavin Hood which was released earlier this year.
The director/producer tells THR:
“I’m still looking to possibly returning to the ‘X-Men’ franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it,” Singer said at a talk at South Korea’s Pusan International Film Festival. ”I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast,” he said.
Singer said he enjoyed making science fiction and fantasy movies because they allowed him to discuss serious issues through entertainment. He said the “X-Men” series, which follows a group of mutants with superpowers who struggle to fit in with humans, is about “tolerance and social structures.” He said he likes to “trick audiences into thinking they’re seeing fireworks, but they’re learning about themselves and listening to what I have to say.”
“The excitement about working in science fiction and fantasy is – the stories, if they are good, are about the human condition,” Singer said.
Last month Lauren Shuler-Donner, the longtime producer behind the X-Men films mentioned that there was going to be a pitch to studios for an X4: New Mutants story, that could be the project that Singer comes back on allowing for him to continue with the cast and characters he had in the first 2 X-Men films. There has also been speculation he’d do Magneto or The First Class story.
If Singer returns which story would like to see him do?
