Will Bruce Campbell Get a Bigger Role in Spider-Man 4?

Bruce Campbell has made a name for himself in the cult classic world as Ash from the Sam Raimi Evil Dead series. Naturally when Raimi began directing the Spider-man films he put his longtime friend in all 3 films in nice little cameo roles for fans to enjoy and snicker at. In the first Spider-man he played the wrestling announcer, in Spider-man 2 he was the usher at MJ’s play and in Spider-man 3 he played the Maître’d.

Now it seems the actor who now has a successful series on USA with Burn Notice might be getting a bigger role for the fourth installment in the franchise. Specul;ation on the web is that he is in line to play Mysterio. Campebell only confirmed that he had a big role telling Access Hollywood “he’s been told he has a major part - but didn’t yet know anything about his character.”

Mysterio is Quentin Beck, a special effects wizard and stunt man working for a major Hollywood studio with dreams of making a name for himself in the film industry. However, he came to see his career in special effects as a dead-end job, but realized that his expertise in illusions could make him an effective supervillain. Campbell has a history of playing quirky villains as he did play the anti-hero Autolycus in Raimi’s produced Hercules: The Legendary Journey.

I think Mysterio would be a stretch but I wouldn’t put it past him or Raimi. Mysterio wouldn’t have to go bad yet much like the Dr. Connors character on the series who has just been a professor to Peter and not yet turned into The Lizard.
