The Delorean Story Set to Make Its Way Onto Big Screen In The Future
Everyone knows the Delorean as the infamous car that took Doc Brown and Marty McFly to the edge of time and back through the acclaimed and beloved Back to the Future films, ride and cartoon series. But other than its appeal to fans of the series and mad scientists the actual car itself spurred a unique story revolving around greed and drugs.
Hollywood producers Robert Evans and David Permut, are just two of the industry men vying for the right to make the story of the car creator, John Delorean into a movie. The automotive entrepreneur has a notoriety that industry players are betting will make him perfect for the biopic treatment and with films like Wall Street 2 coming to tango with the finance issue in this country and the relevance of the struggling American automotive industry the time now is better than ever.
John Delorean, who died back in 2005, rose through the ranks of General Motors before going it alone to manufacture the iconic Eighties “time travel” vehicle. He took enormous business risks including doing a deal with the Callahan government to make his DM-12′s in Ulster during the height of troubles and an industrial depression in the region. The loans he took to make his dream of the Delorean being a name to rival Ferrari, translated to huge debts when the car itself, more expensive than it’s rivals, failed to sell in sufficient quantities. Finally, a conviction for felony cocaine possession put an end to the car but it secured its status in popular culture when Robert Zemeckis chose its futuristic design as the perfect look for Doc Brown’s homemade time machine. Now you can get a used Delorean in the range of 30,000 to 50,000 US dollars, that’s not bad, just do not get involved with Libiyans.
