Robot Boxing Film to Be Directed By Shawn Levy
Remember watching those shows on Spike TV (formerly TNN) where small time inventors, engineers and junkyard innovators built remote control robots and put them in a ring complete with special effects and pyrotechnics to have the ultimate battle bot showdown – that show was called Robot Wars. Well the series didn’t last long here or in the UK but there are still BattleBot competitions throughout the world pitting remote control robots against one another.
Well someone thought that concept was great for the foundation of a movie and sure enough that movie is getting made but with some movie magic and future improvements.
Shawn Levy, who previously directed, Night at the Museum II and the soon to be released, Date Night, is now set to direct Real Steel, a DreamWorks film about a father and son who take a robot to the Bot Boxing Championship.
The film is set in the near future, where combatants control human-like 2000-pound robots that battle in the ring. John Gatins turned in the most recent script draft. The film is being exec produced by Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey for ImageMovers. Levy is expected to direct the film next year.
