Lebron James to Star in Fantasy Basketball Camp
Lebron James is set to not only follow Michael Jordan’s success on the court but he is also following his lead as a premiere athlete making his way into Hollywood. Those who could have forgotten about this, Michael Jordan joined Bugs Bunny and headlined in the live-action/animated kid film, Space Jam.
Now it seems as Lebron is lucky to have a slightly better project to show his comfort in front of the camera, though the title made me think of something else. It makes sense that one of the most marketable athletes in the modern era would make a bout into film being that his marketing campaigns are very well received and his recent appearance on SNL was acclaimed.
Brian Grazer who is producing the pic had this to say about getting Lebron for the film.
“I initially sought LeBron out because my 8-year-old son, Thomas, and I were just dying to meet him, but I felt that beyond being one of the world’s great superstar athletes, here was someone so relaxed and comfortable with himself that he would have the capability to be that way onscreen,” Grazer stated. “Later, when I watched him host Saturday Night Live, and saw his advertising work, it was clear he can do this.”
The pic is a comedy about five guys from different backgrounds who come to Vegas to live out their fantasy by attending the LeBron James Adult Basketball Camp. While it should be enough that these dreamers get to breathe the same oxygen as their hero, the campers drag James into their various life issues, ranging from serious to idiotic.
Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are writing the script. There is a documentary set to be released sometime this fall called More than a Game about his Ohio high school basketball team and their legacy as a winning team, facing adversity and many other life details. More Than A Game combines a series of unforgettable one-on-one interviews with rare news footage, never-before-seen home videos, and personal family photographs to bring this heart-wrenching and wholly American story to life. The film is being distributed by Lionsgate.
