Hugh Jackman Joins Real Steel
The Shawn Levy directed Dreamworks film, Real Steel, now has its star and that is Hugh Jackman. The robot boxing film based of a short story from Richard Matheson, revolves around a world where human boxing is outlawed because of excessive violence, and replaced by robot boxing with 2,000-pound robots duking it out. Jackman would play an ex-fighter-turned-fight-promoter who finds an abandoned robot that somehow seems to always win.
John Gatins turned in the most recent script draft. The film is being exec produced by Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey for ImageMovers. Levy is expected to direct the film next year.
Matheson continues to have his works put into Hollywood films even in to his 80s. That includes I Am Legend, the upcoming Richard Kelly film,The Box, the Imagine/Universal comedy The Incredible Shrinking Man, and Summit Entertainment’s Countdown, which is based on Matheson’s short story Death Ship and was scripted by Wanted writers Michael Brandt and Derek Haas.
