Game Review: Batman Arkham Asylum
Every time a comic book related game is released, I always look forward to them, usually purchase them, and then end up being disappointed with some of them. This time that is not the case. I recently purchased Batman: Arkham Asylum, and all I can say is WOW! This has to be one of the best video games that have been released in a while.
First off let’s start with what is great about this game. The voice acting in this is phenomenal, for those of you who are fans of Batman: The Animated Series, I think you will appreciate this the most. They have Kevin Conroy reprising his role of The Dark Knight himself (which to me he is the best voice actor for Batman yet) and then we have Mark Hamill returning to do the Joker’s voice. Who doesn’t love how he can pull off calling Batman “Batsy”. Next is the visuals, this game has the look and feel of what Batman is really about. Arkham Asylum has an eerie but unique and very vivid look to it that makes this a fun location to be in. The game play is also great from using the Batarang to the grapple hook, and explosive gel among others in his vast arsenal to fight Joker, his fellow villains and the thugs that are patrolling the island as well. The character movement for Batman is a plus, it doesn’t feel forced or fake, but flows smoothly when in a fight and maneuvering in and out of danger.
Funny thing is the only bad thing was a save issue, and I think that was more due to an error on my part and not the game’s.
Overall Thoughts – Run out and buy this game, this is a must own for comic book fans and for those who are not. And if this game peaks your interest enough, you can read the story that started it all, it can be found in your local comic book shop or online. Just search for Batman: Arkham Asylum.
