The Unused Leaked Halloween II Trailer Shows A Tale of Two Masks
A couple of nights ago, I logged into my MySpace account and started perusing my news feed. I noticed that Trailerpark had posted a new blog entitled, “A Tale of Two ‘Halloween II’ Trailers,” which instantly piqued my warped, horror-loving mind.
As it turned out, someone (and this someone is a genius) leaked an unused trailer for the upcoming Rob Zombie sequel. Now, I absolutely loved Zombie’s reimagining of the John Carpenter classic. More psychological than gore, Zombie’s Halloween took me someplace dark, but someplace human and I have watched it about eleven times. It was a great step forward in his evolution as a filmmaker.
That said, my feelings for Halloween II have been lukewarm at best. The trailers that I had seen made me think that Zombie had taken a step back as a filmmaker. I remember how wild and over-the-top House of 1000 Corpses had been. That movie needed a leash and muzzle. However, he more than made up for it with the brilliant, spaghetti-western flavored road flick, The Devil’s Rejects.
So, I thought it was a safe bet to think that, “Hey, maybe we’re going to get the exact opposite this time.” Halloween was the mature, disturbing masterpiece and Halloween II is going to be the ruckus-filled, unrestrained disaster that was House of 1000 Corpses (albeit a really fun disaster to watch).
Then, I saw this:
Excuse my language, but whoever decided against using this trailer needs to be f**king fired! I am incredibly psyched to see this movie now. This trailer embodies the Rob Zombie I know and love. This trailer proves that Zombie is only getting better.
There’s something epic in this preview. I adore the use of Nights in White Satin. Juxtaposed against these violent images and paced perfectly, the combination provides the perfect sociopathic touch—distant, calm, enchanting.
We feel the rising tension. We sense a brutal climax, something unlike anything we have experienced or have felt in the past. Zombie is taking us to a new dimension of the human soul. It’s someplace dark, but real. Hell is coming for us, but we don’t care. The music seduces us; we can’t turn away. We need his knife. And we love it.
And come midnight tonight, I’m getting some of that knife. See you on the other side.
