Spielberg to Adapt Another Crichton Novel Called Pirate Latitudes
Just days after I wrote about how there should be some consideration on bringing back Jurassic Park there lands some news on Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton.
According to USA Today, Spielberg is currently putting together a film based on the novel Pirate Latitudes from the late author, Michael Crichton. Back in April it was annouced that Crichton had 2 books that were to be published posthumously as well as receive film options. Pirate Latitudes was finished and the other, a techno-thriller has many notes and outlines and would have a ghost writer come in and finish.
The famous author worked with Spielberg when he adapted Crichton’s popular Jurassic Park novel. David Koepp, who who wrote the screenplay for Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World, is going to be handling screenwriting duties on this project as well. Spielberg will produce and might even direct the project.
Pirate Latitudes is set in Jamaica in 1665, and hits store shelves Nov. 24. Pirate Latitudes revolves around plans by a notorious pirate named Hunter and the governor of Jamaica to raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure. Don’t expect the supernatural elements like Pirates of the Caribbean but expect and deep sea adventure for sure. I can’t wait to read the book as Crichton is my favorite author of all time and every story of his would make a great movie and most have.
