Ninja Assassin’s Rain to Enter the Dragon?
Latino Review has caught word that Warner Bros. Pictures is considering Korean megastar RAIN for the lead role in writer/director Kurt Sutter’s Awaken the Dragon, which is a noir-style remake of Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon, the 1973 martial arts classic.
Awaken the Dragon is a contemporized drama about a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs. RAIN has made some critical acclaim here in the states with those who have already seen Ninja Assassin. There was a screening at Comic-Con and it got massive acclaim from those who saw it.
In the original, Lee portrayed a martial artist who is drafted by law enforcement to participate in a martial arts tournament and infiltrate a drug smuggling operation run from the host’s heavily guarded island.
I love this movie it is literally one of my favorite films of all time – in the top 50. I love martial arts films and there was a point in my life where all I did was watch Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies on Saturday afternoons. My affinity for the kung fu films is still there but not as much as it used to be. I am excited to see Ninja Assassin and based on the screening in San Diego RAIN is poised to be a martial arts super star here as well.
