Mission: Impossible IV Finds Its Writing Team
Last we heard JJ Abrams and Tom Cruise were partnering to produce a fourth Mission:Impossible film for Cruise to star. The last film featured the writing talents of Orci and Kurtzman who have since gone on to write Star Trek, 2 Transformers films and other stuff.
Filling in their proverbial shoes for the fourth film is Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, who both have signed on to write the screenplay for Mission: Impossible IV.
According to Variety, the scribes aren’t big feature names yet, but they join a roster of writers who transitioned from Abrams TV series creations to pen the features he directs and produces through his Bad Robot banner.
Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons with Abrams as co-exec producers of Alias and they will script Mission: Impossible IV based on a story Abrams wrote with them. While the only other commitments so far are for Cruise and Abrams to produce the film together sources said that Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity.
“I’ve been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years,” Abrams said. “Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We’re off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed.”
I think Mission Impossible 4 will be really good. I am excited about the control that Abrams brings as a producer and allowing a story he wrote to be advanced by writers he trusts. A guy as innovative as him wouldn’t just hire his friends. Guys like Matt Reeves is a perfect example. On an aside I think it is interesting that Cruise may not be the star – are they setting up for a new trilogy following another INF agent?
