Is Lionsgate Gearing up for Dirty Dancing Remake?

Lionsgate is gearing up for a remake of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing and has set Julia Dahl (Uptown Girls) to work on the script, according to Production Weekly.

As we all know in the original we had Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Grey (pre-nose job) plays a young woman in the summer where she meets Johnny Castle (Swayze) who teaches dance at a family Summer Camp and in his off hours Dirty Dances with the other dancers. She learns a routine so that one of the women can recover from an abortion and ends up becoming Johnny’s lover despite the disapproval of her family.

I am not surprised that they are remaking this film I mean with all the remakes hitting us its amazing this wasn’t talked about sooner. My question how will the story differ? Maybe they will some sort of dance crew or something, wait that was Step Up, what about making Johnny Castle black? Oh that was done in Save the Last Dance , maybe he is a latin ballroom dancer, oh damn! that was the Dirty Dancing sequel that came out a couple of years ago. Well between this and a Footloose remake I am torn. I wonder if Zack Efron is available for this remake, I mean Footloose didn’t work out, maybe he can dirty dance with Vanessa Hudgens.
