Hancock 2 Secures Writers for Sequel
Just a week after Peter Berg mentioned he’d like to make a sequel for Hancock, some more developments have come out and this time its 2 writers set to pen the picture for Columbia. Adam Fierro and Glen Mazzara to pen Hancock 2, the sequel to the Will Smith anti-hero, superhero flick, which grossed $624 million worldwide last year.
The plot details are being kept under wraps, though the scribes will work with Smith and director Peter Berg to build on the world hinted at in the first movie.
The original starred Smith as a boozy, irresponsible superhero who undergoes an image makeover by a public relations man (Jason Bateman). It later is revealed that the hero is part of a line of immortal beings who have been around for more than 3,000 years and begin to lose their powers when in proximity to fellow immortals.
Hancock, originally titled Tonight He Comes, took more than 12 years to make it to the screen; the sequel will be on a faster track. No production date has been set nor has Will Smith or Peter Berg been officially confirmed.
In the recent conversation with Berg he mentioned expanding the “immortal god” world while also building on Jason Bateman’s character and his global PR brand seen at the end of the movie.
I liked Hancock, not enough, to get excited about a sequel but enough to casually go see it when it comes out. I wonder if Berg will direct or just produce being that he has a bunch of projects down the pipeline and with his schedule I can’t see a Hancock 2 for at least 4 years, assuming he will helm.
