Complete Cast of Machete Revealed

Robert Rodriguez’s Machete started production this week and with that we get the full cast announcement. Many of these names have been rumored to be involved but now we have the official confirmation.

Aside from Danny Trejo, who will play Machete, the film also stars Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey. Rodriguez is directing with his protege Ethan Maniquis.

Rodriguez is continuing the trend arguably started by his friend Quentin Tarrantino with Pulp Fiction, getting a plethora of name actors to form a bulky ensemble of names to give many people reasons to see the movie. Ocean’s 11 is another example, and may be a better one, of that ensemble trend in Hollywood pulling various name actors into the same film. I am really excited about Machete as it reminds me already of films like From Dusk Till Dawn and the Mariachi trilogy.

Machete is the first non-studio production that Rodriguez has done since El Mariachi, his big hit that led to Desperado and his emergence as major director in Hollywood.  The film revolves around a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. The idea spawned from a fake trailer ran in between the Grindhouse films, Planet Terror and Death Trap.
