Bryan Singer To Develop Excalibur Project?

It seems like Hollywood is back on the Arthurian Legend bandwagon. Currently my favorite comic book writer Warren Ellis is developing an untitled Arturian project going by the name of Excalibur the writer said post SDCC that he is developing it for Hollywood Gang who produced 300 and had it distributed for Warners.

Well now there is talk of an actual remake of the John Boorman film, Excalibur from 1981 and that Warner Brothers is keen on the remake. WB and Legendary Pictures have labored for months to pull together the rights to the film, which Singer will produce with Julie Yorn. The studio is also keen on Singer directing the project as well but they may be doubrful being that he is going to be working on Battlestar Gallactica. Singer hasn’t set a writer yet for the remake.

Inspired by Thomas Malory’s 15th century work, and scripted by Rospo Pallenberg and Boorman, Excalibur explores the myth of King Arthur, complete with the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin the wizard and the quest for the Holy Grail to save Arthur’s life. The original picture broke such talent as Helen Mirren (who played the evil Morgana), Liam Neeson (Sir Gawain), Gabriel Byrne, Patrick Stewart and Ciaran Hinds.

So now I am confused is Warners scrapping Ellis’ version, was his version a treatment for this project? Hollywood Gang was mentioned in the article so it could be they are 2 separate projects. This is confusing so maybe we can get some answers from someone at Warner Brothers about the 2. Chances are being that Singer is a big name and the remake is more recognizable we will hear more about this sooner than the Warren Ellis project.
